| I
set out on this project on Sunday 8th June 2003 and finished 14 days
later having achieved my goal. However, it was not without
many frustrations. The RU23 is a very expensive kit not least
because the resin and mastering really should be of a much higher
quality. I suspect though that Replicas Unlimted are
reading reviews, taking notes and acting on criticism because the
kit I received was noticeably different to others I'd seen reviewed.
Do they have a web presence? I've yet to find it if it
exists... |
The
RU23 actually took quite a while longer to finish than I'd first
anticipated. I bought the kit several months before begining
construction and deliberately waited until I had a straight couple
of weeks (on leave from work) to start the project. I would have
been continually frustrated by the start/stop routine if I'd just
done it as and when chances presented themselves...and I might not
have finished it at all. I estimate that I spent at least half
of the construction time on repairing and sanding various parts but
at least that aspect didn't come as a surprise having read other
reviews. And I suppose taking the photos as I progressed and
authoring this webby slowed things down somewhat too! |
| To
produce a pristine condition Eagle Transporter from this kit would
be a near impossible task; you would have to spend forever trimming,
filling and correcting. However, from the outset, I wanted my
Eagle to be a 'dirty workhorse' and the weathering process went a
long way to covering (or distracting from) the many flaws in the
resin |
If
you are building this kit, have bought it or are considering buying
it then I hope this site helps in some way. If you've never
worked with a resin kit before, don't worry; neither had I before
this project! If you have any questions about the kit (or
Eagles in general) then send me an email. If I don't know the
answer I'll try to find out for you or refer you to some links. The
Hangar contains many photos of the model from all angles but if you
require anything specific which would assist you in your build then
just let me know
Cheers!

| High
Points? - Finishing the engine assembly and spine clamps |
Low
Points? - Those damned attitude thrusters...awkward to paint
and they ruined the look of the model - just as well I managed to
get some stainless steel ones from Robert Hobby |
| Is
it for sale? - Enquiries always welcome |
Can
you build me one? - I'd love to but the time it would take me
to complete it would be way in excess of the two straight weeks it
took for this one. And besides, I devoted a lot of effort into
it as it was a one-off build...I couldn't guarantee another one of
similar quality... However, there are many modelers on the net
who will be only too happy to build you one - begin your enquiries
at Starship
Modeler |
| Will
you be building more for yourself? - Unlikely at the moment
as I'm very busy with work. Maybe some day... |
Can
I link to your site? - Yes, please do, although any images
used must be hosted on your own webspace. See
Credits and Links
for more details on the link logo |
| Can
I use your photos on my Space 1999 website?- Yes, but please
ask first as i like to know where they are being used! All
images must be hosted on your own webspace and full
credits given |
Can
you make graphics for me for my Space 1999 or other website?
- Yes, I will at least consider it favourably. Please enquire
with details through www.eagleimagery.co.uk |
