No! me neither . . . till of lately and it’s as old as Warhammer modelling technique apparently . Anyway it’s only of good use if you have a spray gun. Here’s a way of doing it with brushes/enamel paints or acrylics if you like the old methods with an original twist. This was just a tester on a sample surface.

1.Paint a surface like this and add your desired colour scheme. Dab a colour or two.

2.When dry, spray heavily with a firm hold hairspray and when wet add the bottom of a packet of crushed lightly salted tortilla chips. (crush to your liking and size) to the wet surface spray.

3.When dry, add paint darker over the surface with an old brush and leave again to dry.

4.With an old brush wet with water and rub against its surface and watch it flake away and weather. You can judge yourself the degree of how much you want rubbed away for the embossed rust feel. You can then add more colour with a brush if required and scrape with a knife here and there.
