Some bad and good news about Paul Darrow
Sorry to be the one to tell you this.
Last October Paul had a aurtic anurism (may have spelt that wrong)
Luckly a friend was staying with him, and she rung 999.
In hospital they said that if she hadnt been there he would have been dead in half an hour, they did an operation which sorted it, but then they noticed there was no blood suplly to his legs...
So they did another op, a bypass to give blood to his legs, but that didnt work.
So they had to amputate one leg below the knee and the other above the knee.
He was in hospital for 3 months.
and is now in a wheel chair.

However he's now in good spirits and moved to a disabled flat.
and is still continuing his Audio work.

Im so pleased someone was there and it could have been so much worse.

That is really sad news Andy. But I am glad that Paul is atleast carrying on with his work.

Real shame to hear that but very lucky he's still here and let's hope he gets better. His acting in Blakes 7 was pure genius.

Thanks very much for passing along this news, as we would likely not have heard of it over here...

First and foremost, he is alive. Thank God for someone being there at that moment with quick presence of mind, and hospital staff who knew what to do - and quickly.

Fan everywhere surely wish for a positive recovery...!

I feel terrible: I always think of paul as being this dashing and capable guy...being having him being disabled is a blow. 12-05-2015 07:55 AM

Crippling blow.....
Was he not still treading the boards as an actor as well? The loss of the use of both his legs is a terrible blow - I understand that the human spirit and sheer strength of will is very often enough to see a person through the darkest moments but, seriously, how would any of us react? Poor Paul.

I agree with the other contributors - he grabbed that show by the lapels when Gareth Thomas pushed off, and there was never a dull moment when he was in shot. Thanks indeed to Andy H for bringing this to our attention otherwise I, for one, would never have known.

Kindest regards, and all best wishes to Paul Darrow,

That's pretty shocking news, but it could have been a whole lot worse ... it's incredibly lucky that someone was there when it happened and they were able to get the necessary help to him so promptly.

Best wishes to Mr. Darrow from all here at Exterminator Towers.

I am in absolute shock, I had heard he was ill but knew no details.

Thank the maker someone was with him at the time.

Knowing what an active man he is I can't imagine how he is feeling, but as others have said it sounds so serious the news could have been a lot worse.

Thoughts and prayers to Paul tonight, as I said can't imagine how he must be feeling but what a strength of character not to give up, but to get things sorted and carry on.

Thank you for bringing it to our attention Andy, if there is anyway of getting a message back to him please pass on our sincerest best wishes and hopes for the future.

While obviously relieved that things could have been much worse, it is a shock to see a childhood hero suffering misfortune. All the very best Paul Darrow.

Like to add my get well wishes as well, Avon is probably my fave sci-fi character ever, and I've enjoyed hearing him again on the recent Big Finish Audiobooks. All the best Mr D.

Just heard this news about old Paul! I hope he is okay and I'm saddened at what a terrible thing to happen to him!

Avon was my favourite character - I always enjoyed Paul's dry, deadpan delivery.

Boldman 20-10-2015 03:42 PM

Just watched him as a UNIT captain in Dr Who and the Silurians on the Horror channel :)

johnnybear 22-10-2015 06:11 PM

As long as you didn't watch him as Tekker in Timelash, Bold!

This is an old thread but I have only just read it.
I'm gutted, I bought his autobiography and read it, he came across very well in it, I also listen to him on Jack FM alot, His wife passed away now this, my thoughts are with him.:(

Realise this is an old thread but what a shock. I knew he suffered from some illness that had prevented him from being able to continue about his normal life but had no idea it ended up with amputation. So glad to read that the great Paul Darrow is up and about again and happy to be returning to work.

Life is full of nasty surprises, terrible for this to happen to one of my heroes but so very glad and grateful he's ok now.
