The forum has been draining bandwidth in ever-increasing quantity since it began. It's now up to 26Gb per month and my current limit is only 20Gb. Any additional bandwidth over this limit costs me £25 per year, per Gb. Sorry to report that the forum may have to close indefinitely - unless I can find a way... * |

ouch....
That is expensive.... How about banning pictures in posts? i.e. just allowing clickable links to pics? As an immediate measure it could give you some indication if you could get back under the limit. You might have to do some ruthless pruning of existing posts as well. |

You could probably turn off pic in post links immediately, even for those in existing posts I guess?
I'm sure everyone would appreciate and understand the reasons for it. |

Are you sure in-line photo's doesn't affect bandwidth on your site?
My IT skillset isn't web hosting but I'd swear I've seen sites that don't allow in-line pics for just that reason? |

What about a membership user-fee? Personally I would be willing to pay for maintaining my membership and help keep this vital Forum afloat! What do you guys think?

Sponsorship? Most forums reply on sponsorship with links to their stores thus returning a percentage that can help fund the site.

would it help to delete out non-important postings? or is that just a storage
issue and has nothing to do with bandwidth? |

Yup. Storage isn't an issue. Which is why (at the moment) I will never delete a good thread! |

the bandwidth issue probably comes from everyone clicking on your link
that is posted at each of the space 1999 websites and coming to visit? i don't have a problem in helping to pay for some hosting if you decide to go that route! if you do any changes i hope you change themes! lol actually 20gb per month isnt much i just looked at a hosting plan on godaddy.com and it has 200gb storage and 250gb transfer for under 4 bucks a month |

I for one don't want to lose this forum, though I haven't enough techno-savviness to offer any suggestions. Hopefully, others have found some of the things I've brought to this forum interesting and/or useful, and occasionally fun. I've learned a lot of techniques here, found great reference material (or links to great reference material) and perhaps most important, met several great & fun people whose interests go far beyond Space: 1999 & Eagles. (Well, "met" meaning corresponded online & in a couple cases conducted private trades via mail. But I still feel like I've met these people I otherwise would never have known.) I really would feel a loss if all that were gone, and I've rarely, if ever, felt that way about a forum or discussion board. As for paying a user fee, if it were to come to that, I'm not opposed to a reasonable one. (Please, Eagle, give us some warning if it comes to actual closure, so we can archive/print posts for posterity, and/or exchange e-mail addresses for future correspondence!) Anyone remember the Save: 1999 conventions in the past? Kind of looks like we'll be mounting our own Save campaign here...
