I've got a Robotech Revell kit, the Recovery vehicle, and as I'm a bit of a Battletech fan, I was considering doing it in Battletech colours.
Any advice on what would look best? Camouflage? House/Clan colours? Whatever. Also, the decals that come with it will be pretty useless, does anyone know where to get Battletech decals. This is the kit type http://cgi.ebay.com/Revell-Robotech-...QQcmdZViewItem |

Suitable 'House' colours would be the way to go to my mind, you could then tie it in with a Mech or two in the same scheme.
As for a source for decals, no idea at all, other than making your own and printing them on decal sheet, perhaps try a search on eBay or do a Google search, you never know what you may turn up. I keep thinking about revisiting the 1/35th scale Horizon vinyl Clan Madcat kit I have, I cut out all of the 'blank' widows and 'glazed' them with clear acetate sheet so I could scratch a full interior for it, mind you that was around 12 years ago then put it away in the box and forgot all about it.

What sort of house colours would be useful, I do have the Battletech Field Manuals for the houses, would the colour plates in there be a good guide? |

Yes check your books for something that may be suitable.
When I get the chance I will have a look through my Battletech and Mechwarrior source books, there may be some colour plates in those. Bear in mind not only were there specific houses, there are numerous mercenary companies as well. I will see what if anything that I can find in the books.

Just a bit of background info about that 'robot recovery' kit: it's a re-release of a Japanese Takara kit from a series called Dougram, a future military story that is not related to the American series Robotech. Many Dougram kits were released under Revell's Robotech Defenders line, which was a great way to obtain difficult-to-find kits in America.
Sounds like a neat project you've got planned, Jade Falcon. You might want to save those decals for a future project, or else give/trade them to someone. I don't know if this'll help, but Squadron Mail Order out of Texas might have generic aircraft & armour decals you could adapt for your project. I don't know if shipping costs might be prohibitive, but at least you can check out what they offer: www.squadron.com

I often save decals as you never know when you might want them. For example, I'm doing a ZSU-23 Shilka anti aircraft vehicle, but I'm doing it in Croat colours. The decal sheet however provides Pole, Soviet Union, Syrian, Czech and East German, and those sort of things always come in handy.
It's the same when some kits come with excess parts, there's always some project the extras might come in handy for. |
