Default Airfix -Britain's next top Model- BBC-2 7PM

There's a programme on tonight 7pm on BBC-2 on Airfix and how it's being relaunched by Hornby- talking about Sc-fi tie-ins such as Doctor Who.

Worth a look.

Default Good Old Airfix

Thanks for the info. I am watching the programme now. Very interesting. It does not look like the designers are being treated very well by the people supposed to send them the facial designs for the Doctor Who kit. The very best of British luck to them. I wonder if they could make some Gerry Anderson kits, now that Product Enterprises has abandoned that side of the market.

Realised that Chris P had posted after posting my alert...oh well.

Interesting programme, recorded it for the sake of posterity- amazed by that designer fellow pulled from retirement using his ruler to measure up a Canberra bomber- that's going to be in 1/48 scale and a Nimrod's coming out too. It's good to see this brand back, think Hornby got a bargain for £2m!

Did anybody notice, and I could be wrong here, the chap who did the clay sculpting for Martha Freeman and the Tennant & Eccleston Doctors' was the same fellow on the Iconic Replicas site. It was their 'on the bench' section when they had a slideshow of in progress photos and I'm sure he was the same person doing their Dr Who sculpts.....?

A BBC program that shows a company being badly treated and let down by another BBC department!

I'm not quite sure why. There must have been quite a few pics of the artists around to work from without having to wait for the BBC. I will say having seen the prototype kit featured at the IPMS Nationals a few weeks ago, the character sculpts are superb.

Agreed - I was blown away at the likeness. This is definitely on my wants list.

Hopefully this will boost interest in Airfix again.

I enjoyed the program it was very insightful and the experiment with the young school kid's and the pile of kits vs the Playstation was interesting, I also agree that the Dr Who figures are really good, the set with the Tardis and the 2 figures is definately on my wants list, fortunately painting figures is more my area of expertise than some of the stuff featured on this site.

It will be intersting to see what else they have lined up, although it looks like a Dalek will be next up.

Default Contacting Airfix

If Gerry Anderson fans and those of other sci fi shows extend the hand of friendship to Airfix i.e. write polite letters requesting them to consider various models, you never know.

I watched this, much enjoyed it.

They should have plugged the new Nimrod, as I feel this is going to be a big seller too,
but sadly due to current news events concerning this aircraft, this would not have been such a good idea.
