I'm not part of the Apollo program, nor (to my knowledge) am I related to anyone associated with it. Even so, I'm bothered by the fact that people have become so willfully ignorant of what actually happened.*

For that matter, as an American, I'm deeply ashamed at the things affecting my country (especially in the past decade or so): not only the apparent drop in IQs, but also the drop in caring. Before anyone brands me unpatriotic or something, I'm not saying all Americans are affected this way; but as a country, we sure seem much more credulous (willing to accept anything at face value) than ever before. I find that disturbing.

Sorry to have gotten so serious here, and thanks for letting me vent.

*I think I've mentioned this before somewhere, but I actually learned about the real space programs and astronomy thanks to Space: 1999; I enjoyed the show so much, I wanted to learn as much as I could about the real universe. Turns out the real thing is even cooler than anything on tv, but we just can't get out there as fast! Anyway, since I've been studying all this stuff for so long, including course work in high school and in college, I find the notion of some elaborate "hoax" to be laughable. The problem is, so many people are serious about a hoax, and seriously believe it's possible. (That is, the ones that aren't blatantly lying about it in the first place just to make a bunch of money.)

By the way, I laughed at the Missouri River comment a few posts ago!

As for discussions about photographic evidence that started this thread a while back, I thought this particular discussion at ApolloHoax.net was both educational and entertaining:
"Fun with Parallax"

The beauty is, as I mentioned in one of my earlier posts on this topic, you can go take photos like this yourself!

I blame shallow and sensationalist news/documentary reporting. It was quite a few months ago but there was some docu on Nazi UFO's, I laughed my way through its audacity of claims. There was another a few years ago about the DeHavilland Comet Airliner claiming it was the negligence of the designers and builders that caused the early crashes. I didn't see the actual programme but I was amazed at the amount of letters complaining about the producers of the documentary in aircraft magazines - Lynching time for them!

There is a thing that disturbed me deeply last week... I read an article about the VOYAGER probes. They're leaving the Solar sytem, and in 10 years time will be in tha Alpha Centauri solar system. In fact, they're going to be the first human-produced craft to navigate the interstellar space. Interstellar space is not in fact a cheap scifi term, but the vast open space between solar systems. And we're already there...

This is one of the greatest things man has achieved, and it's going practically unnoticed for general knowledge

People are by far more interested in sports that in things like that.

Politicians have failed to explain the importance of things like that to new generations. Maybe because they've not tried it...

Boys, how have we been cheated...

I agree that the fact the Voyagers (and not to forget Pioneer) are leaving the heliosphere is fascinating. A landmark in human technology.

However, it is a little more than 10 years flying time for Voyager to Alpha Centauri without warp engines - something like 70 000, I belive...

They are far more interested in things that are self serving to themselves.
