However, "UFO" is not "Thunderbirds".
"SPACE:1999" is not "Thunderbirds".

I think "UFO" have to believe it will get made. I mean even ABC-TV is bringing back the "V" Visitor alien TV series from the 1980s.
Thunderbirds tainted the pool with my conversations with these super Gerry Anderson(and know him personally) fans. If you want to bring back these series you need a very powerful producer with a excellent track record and a super air tight script to avoid development hell. There is no
guarantee that "V" the series will be a success. It could die after a handful of episodes. It depends on the time slot that it is given and the type of scripts. If its put against a big show then it might have a hard time getting an audience.

Default I agree, "V" is less than "UFO".

I agree, "V" will most likely be canceled before episode 13.

I agree, only a powerful Director-Producer will get this reboot of "UFO" made or a "SPACE:1999" reboot made.

Unfortunately, "Thunderbirds" 2004 movie was made.

I still want to believe this "UFO" movie will get made with the producer and director stated...there are so many action-adventure movies that have or will be released(e.g. "Terminator Salvation" "G.I. Joe:Rise Of Cobra"). The audience is there, both new and old.

Youu cannot predict Hollywood. They put on hold projects that are promising and green light projects that are bad. Its all about politics in Hollywood and which executives booty to kiss.

I think the potential for the new UFO movie is exciting -- of course, it might be terrible. But, then again, it might be fantastic. So until it happens I will remain an optimist and hope for the best.

Besides, if it does work out and is successful, then it opens up the vault of other Anderson productions for stronger reboot/remake consideration... and 1999 will be an obvious choice.

I'm all for remakes or reboots, because even if they suck they take nothing away from the original. We'll always have the original 48 episodes of 1999.

Default CalgaryAlphan, I agree absolutely!

CalgaryAlphan, you stated exactly how I see the UFO reboot movie. It is still the best hope for Gerry Anderson reboots to be produced.
We always have the original episodes of any of the TV series.

Thanks Steve!

I'm looking forward to hearing people's reaction to the book - I'm fairly certain it will generate a bit of discussion!

I feel the same as both of you...I just feel both Space and UFO need the right updating to be relaunched/revived.

Unlike a few fans we/I've heard from, I don't believe a next gen approach would work for either Space:1999 or UFO, since both series have specifically stated dates and are now both anachronistic...I also don't believe either would draw much (if any) of a new audience with said approach.

Rename Space:1999 to Space:2099 (as some have suggested) and we'll all probably be dead by the time 2099 comes along, so the series being innaccurate would be irrellevant to us...LOL! Or just rename it Moonbase Alpha or something similar, so fans will know what to expect.

Dana

I agree, Dana - I've felt for a long time that "Moonbase Alpha" is actually the perfect name for a revived/re-imagined/continued series.

If "Battlestar Galactica" works as a series title, then why not "Moonbase Alpha"?

As for those various options on the return of the series - I would be in favour of any of them. My first choice would be a continuation based on the concepts Johnny Byrne imagined (and, for anyone not familiar with the ideas he proposed, they are detailed in my upcoming book). But, I would also support a re-imagination of the original series (as with the upcoming new "V"). As I've said before, if it's terrible, we still have the original series!

Default MOONBASE ALPHA

"MOONBASE ALPHA" should work as a reboot title,
as you said CalgaryAlphan, as does "BATTLESTAR GALACTICA" work too.

Other TV series named after the ship/base setting:
"SPACE ACADEMY"
"STAR COMMAND"
"SPACE BATTLESHIP YAMATO"
"THUNDERBIRDS"
"SeaQuest DSV"

Remember, any series has to go through the maze called Hollywood. The producers and financiers decide which pictures get made and which don't. But first, you need a workable screenplay and then you have to sell it to the people who hold the purse strings with a lot of booty kissing.
