5:15, how bad were/are his teeth? hardly a straight one in his head?
Now altogether to the same tune, which is now horribly stuck in our heads,

"We watched a film clip, it made us all sick, it was our hero's dying of old, and he was ugly, so very ugly, his teeth were crooked, when he smiled I gagged".

Wow, pretty harsh, guys. This was indeed cheesy, but c'mon, this is the kind of stuff that was done on variety shows back then. Anyone remember The Muppet Show (the Star Wars episode with Mark Hamil comes to mind)? I think they genuinely enjoyed doing that segment. My girlfriend said it wasn't as bad as she was preparing herself for, though the song struck her as a bid odd.

i thought i was the only one who thought the previous comments were harsh. to me, the reactions to the video were pretty snide, even vile in the light of the anti-war message of the song and the way variety shows were presented back then.

this is my very first post on this board, and felt i really had to speak up.

I have to agree with that comment, that is what it was like in the 1960s and 1970s, thankfully that sort of thing was dying out by the time the 1980s came along.

A bit cheesy it may be but I rememeber as kid seeing far worse on American and British TV variety show's, or stuff that left you thinking 'what the hell was that all about then'.

Its nothinbg more than a product of its time, thankfully we do not see that king of thing anymore, but it was what it was at the time.

I didn't mind that, I agree the tune got stuck in my head, but it was nice to see them enjoying themselves.

Martin really did look genuinely emotional at the end... but then he did win an Oscar in his career, so you never know...

I had a quick look at Martin's biography to see what they were doing in 1970, and learned that he was very near to get the role of Mr Spock when Star Trek started... I didn't know that one

Well then stop going and pressing play.... Or turn your speakers off....

Speaking of Spock, did any of you see Leonard Nimoy singing the song about Bilbo Baggins from the Hobbit on who ever show he guested on, typical late 1960s 'swinging' beat with mini skirted dancers, daft lyrics to boot, very very silly, but far better than Willaim Shatner trying to sing.

TonyB;

Yes, I have seen "The Ballad of Bilbo Baggins" with Leonard Nimoy

In case someone hasn't, here it is:

Just imagine, in an alternate universe where Landau got the role of Spock... maybe he would be singing "Bilbo" instead... in that case I prefer "When I was small"

And, while on the subject...

William Shatner's rendition of "Rocket Man"!

After watching that video it makes you wonder why anyone bothered spending 30 million dollars to make the Lord of the Rings trilogy.

Thanks for posting those, I remembered the 'funky' dancers but no mini skirts in sight, mind I had not seen that footage for a lot of years.

William Shatner singing, what more is there to say...........

I agree with you. I had no trouble watching the whole thing. Bit of a strange song, but thought Landaus tears were real.

Why do Sci-fi actors want to sing?
