Default Three cheers for the Commander..

Given the frustrating and infuriating week that our chief has had getting the board back up for no other reason than to amuse us sad Eagle freaks, I'd like to publicly say thanks to Mark for all the effort and to show some appreciation of the hard work. I know I wouldn't want to do it. This forum represents the central meeting place for all us nuts and I'm sure we all feel a little directionless when it's down so altogether now..

Hip hip...

(EDIT) Oops! Just seen the other thread. Oh what the heck? Hip hip..

Heheh, thanks - I wondered where you were. Just got back from IPMS?

Guess who thought it was next weekend?...

Yup, it was a tough week. My business actually suffered because I was doing this forum rather than my usual marketing efforts.

It's a great place - the effort was worth it.

Yes, just fought the traffic on the M40 and got back a few hours ago. I was there in an official capacity this year. I was invited to judge the science fiction and fantasy classes with Mat Irvine to add a fresh perspective. I didn't like to say anything in advance in case anyone was entering a model in any of the categories. To be honest, there wasn't much there although it still took more than two hours to arrive at the final scores. The overall and deserving gold winner was an outstanding "Stargate" vignette (and I'm not a particular fan) closely followed by an exceptionally well finished "Fire Dragon". Although there were several sci fi vehicles there, most were best described as lack lustre and some were frankly awful in build and finish. My only criticism of the current marking system is that if you enter a model into a category and it's the only entrant in that category, you automatically win a gold. I think that system works in respect of the aircraft categories where standards are exceptionally high anyway but because of the low entry in sci fi, you could cut a slice of pizza into the shape of the Enterprise and potentially win a gold. That can't be right? We had the opportunity to add notes to the score sheets and we both made the point of mentioning this.

The good thing is that Mat and I actually agreed on most aspects of the judging and I think we were very fair in points awarded. I thought we might argue more over certain issues but in fact we were thinking along similar lines so I can only assume we were hopefully doing the entries justice.

Yes well done Mark.

As it turns out I was not able to get to IPMS either, I missed it for exactly the same reason as I missed it last year, no transport unfortunately, the wife was out all all weekend with the car, and there was nobody in the area who I knew was going either so that that meant that I was unable to bum a lift, maybe next time.

Mind you it did mean that I could spend all weekend working on the pile of miniatures that I needed to get finished for next weekend

I agree! Thanks for all of your efforts.

I'm also relieved that I wasn't the only one who didn't have access to the boards. I thought it was something I said that got me banished!
