Default SHADO JEEP

I caught the UFO ESP episode on TV today, in which the brilliant Shado Jeep (picture from Phil Broad's site) vehicle appeared a lot. Is there a kit or die-cast out there of this little beauty? What was the original based on - a real car?

I believe the SHADO Jeep was based on the chassis of the Mini Moke, with the addition of a secondary rear axle, finished off with a custom glass-fibre monocoque shell.

Like the cars in UFO, these were originally built for and seen in the film "Doppelganger".

A Mini Moke chassis eh! Fab! I was amazed to see loads of Mini Mokes for hire on Crete when I went there the first time in the late 1980's! The last time I'd seen one was at Port Merion when I was a kid in the 60's, hooked on the Prisoner and taken there for a treat by my folks whilst staying at Butlins in Pwilheli! Come in No.6, your'e time is up! Happy days!

Here's a variety of Mokes in Portmeirion, including mine (on the left in the bottom picture). They're still to be found in 'The Village' during Prisoner conventions !

Fabulous! What fun! I have such happy memories running around Portmerion in the 60's - no large ball chasing me I'm pleased to say! And they let me out! I love the link to other Prisoner vehicles - that Bolens Lawnmower is so Major Matt Mason. Reminds me of his Space Sled!

The jeep was later sold to a garage in Norwich in Norfolk. It was used to ferry car parts around!
