There are some pretty amazing and high-quality behind-the-scenes photos at "Aint It Cool News" from the Blu-Ray. Man, everybody seemed to dress so classy back then!
These are from the making of Breakaway...

Copyright aside, on computer, play video file (usually in the 'stream' folder) with VLC or SMplayer.
(From memory...) 'ctrl+s' on VLC or 's' on SMplayer to grap a screen image.

I just opened my American edition of the Space: 1999 Blu-ray. I noticed that there is a clip for a booklet or pamphlet of some kind inside the cover. Is there supposed to be an insert or booklet included in the American edition? I know one is included in the English Blu-ray edition but I'm wondering if there's supposed to be a commemorative booklet in the English edition as well? Very curious! Thank you for anyone who may know.

I've noticed more and more with DVDs that booklets or even a simple chapter listing, which used to be clipped into the case, have gone 'extinct' to save costs or some such. Interestingly, the costs of said DVDs hasn't really gone down, unless one counts the $5 clearance bin things at certain 'Mart' type mega-stores. (The quality of such DVDs is actually cheaper, by the way... I've noticed far too many 'glitches' when trying to view them, and the cases end up being cracked or otherwise broken, too.)

The point is, though, that DVD cases, and I suspect Blu-ray cases as well, are generic; whether or not a sheet or small booklet was made for a particular set, the case will have the clips to hold one.

Just speculating, by the way... someone else more in the know about this particular set may be of more help to you.

Thank you, CR. I was also wondering about that, if it was just a standard thing with the DVD case, having the clip. However, since it wasn't the typical sized case and with the clip being much larger than the generic DVD case clips, when I read that the English edition of the Space: 1999 Blu-ray actually does have a 48-page commemorative booklet included (which I imagine would be tucked into the clip), well, it had me wondering if indeed the American version is supposed to have a similar booklet included. So I'm still unclear as to if the American version is supposed to have a booklet included or not. If anyone has the American version, did it come with a booklet?

My American version did not come with a booklet. It did, however, come with that abomination of a "Space: 1999" logo that AE came up with for the original DVD release. (Why...?)

I'm only a few episodes in and the clarity is amazing. The detail that can be seen in the Eagle shots is outstanding. (Sometimes a little too good, as there are plenty of OBVIOUS wires in "Guardian of Piri".)

And the color has me re-thinking what I thought I knew about the colors used for uniform sleeves. On my old DVDs (terrible!) I could not tell, for instance, that Sandra's sleeve is yellow while Alan's is mustard.

Hawk, thank you. As far as I'm concerned now, I don't have to go tracking down a copy of a booklet!

I actually had to go and look at my DVD case to see the version of the logo you were referring to, and you're absolutely right! Why indeed didn't they use the original logo. Copyright reasons? I haven't the least idea but it would have looked a lot nicer.

So far, I've only seen the first episode and it looks absolutely amazing. I haven't been let down by expecting too much and I've never been so riveted to the screen watching that first episode before. It's interesting what you said about the colors of the sleeves, being unsure of what the colors of certain sleeves were. Years ago, I actually thought the command color was dark blue! I was surprised to learn it was actually black. I have yet to see even one string but I'm sure I'll be seeing a whole spool of 'em very soon. ;-)

Actually, the command sleeve is dark grey, but it's supposed to be black. A bunch of us had a discussion here on one of the threads a couple years ago about uniform colours. I'll see if I can find a link to the thread...

Ah, thanks, CR! That was a fun thread. For some reason, I always saw the colors for what they were supposed to be. (At least, I think I did!) I was never surprised to learn a sleeve color on someone I didn't know about, I'll put it that way, so if I was missing something along the way, I wasn't aware of it. Until I read that the command sleeve color was not dark blue!

Yup, I also noticed that his sleeve sometimes was very dark gray. In certain shots, especially early on though, to me it looks absolutely black. (At this point, and for decades, I'm certainly wondering how I ever got the idea that it was dark navy blue!)

BTW, the second series pilot "The Metamorph" is somewhat hidden under Special Features on the last episode disc (#5).
