I remember that listing... you lucky thing. DON'T CUT IT UP... LEAVE IT AS IS. You can always get another. Man people have spent upwards of 40 pounds on an example like that. There doesn't even seem to be any stress marks on the plastic.... and with blue glass to boot.

Yeah, you're right, of course As I've also stated before that if it's in good condition then I'll leave it...and so I will! Heres a couple of pics (irritatingly strong sunlight today has bleached-out the colour on the SHADO stickers!)...

Cheers,
Steve.

I have the art for the SHADO Interceptor ready now. I will be opening my site soon (very soon). I am willing to post an image of my art here for feedback, or to send a few samples to people. All I ask is for information regarding what models/toys exist and in what scales they are.

Please contact me via jbot@rogers.com if you are interested.

Thank you.

I have a Dinky all painted and ready to be put back together.
But.......!!!!
I have been reading Mike Trim's excellent book and he says the Interceptors were a pale blue, which just looked white under the studio lights.
Has anybody painted an Interceptor a pale blue like the originals?
Is there any photos showing this?

I think I'll stick with matt white, but it's in my blimmin' head now........
Aaarrggghhh!!!!!!

Hi Doomsday, this has been discussed before and I think debunked as the original interceptor that was at the last Eaglemeet was, going by the pics and those that attended clearly white, no blue.

If you mean in general model/kit terms from the size of the little guy inside it is around 1/72nd. However it is always hard to accurately scale a commercial model or toy when it is based on a fictional vehicle which in turn was only ever realised in miniature form itself in varying scales.

Thanks Jim. Was wondering as I plan to restore a Dinky Interceptor to the UFO show white scheme and was looking at the JBOT site to see what Jim has and see that there is a 1/72 set so good news all round

Agreed, it always was so strange that Dinky Toys thought inaccurate bright colors were better than making it the correct color.

After I had finished reading this thread with the mouth watering photos of the restored and repainted Interceptors I remembered I still had mine from my childhood, and dug it out from the back of the cupboard where I last saw it a few years ago.
Well I have the poor old thing in front of me as I type and it's a bit sad-looking. Covered in dust and without the canopy of firing mechanism, but it still has its missile and legs intact.
At some point in my youth I appear to have gutted it and hand-painted it flat white.

I think I will try and do it as a white one with the decals, and blank off the firing button's hole and the slot for the bit underneath you pull back. I've also ordered a replacement canopy from eBay, but I'll be using an Airfix pilot as that seems to be the common practice in the posts I've read.

Sorry to hijack this thread but it's really inspired me to have a go. (I also have my old MSV which lacks tires and needs to be restored). Once I start I will begin a thread as I don't want to intrude on someone else's hard work.

Here is the Interceptor in all of its dusty glory

I suppose I'm lucky in that I've had this one since it came out, which is why it's rather battered, but I'm hoping that once the paint comes off the metal should be okay.

The guy I bought the canopy off has other parts from Interceptors for sale, including the firing mechanism... I might replace that... depends how the painting goes. Really don't want to go back to the metallic green and orange scheme though... why Dinky, why?

Because "Military toys" sell!!!
And who ever heard of a tank or jet thingy in anything other than military paint schemes. Why that would be sacrilege!
I've got quite a few Interceptors waiting to be restored to "proper" colors ....someday soon-ish.

I got the canopy today and took the Interceptor apart to see it it fitted, which is does perfectly. I also noticed that the chrome part on mine isn't held on by a rivet like the one in the photos above. It's not got any kind of retainer... there's just a hole where it goes over a lug.
I've also ordered a firing mechanism. Even though I'm going to paint her white, I thought dammit! Make her at least work like she did when I got her for Christmas in the very early 70s.
I'll post more pictures once I've cleaned the dust and fuzz from her.
