Nearly finished, just need to get new decals for TB1 as the Aoshima one's are very transparent. Also road markings and diorama surround to do.

Looks great ! I had the same problem with the decals though. It was the "1" on the blue area. Luckily two came with the kit so I applied the second one on top of the first decal - problem solved ! No after market decals are available for this kit sadly and the font is incorrect on the word "Thunderbird". I looked into getting some specially made but the costs were prohibitive (for me anyway).

Wonderful Diorama- a lot of thought and care went into that!
I love the little tiny civilian vehicles- they really help give you a sense of scale. . |

Thank you for you kind words. I wanted to do it in the vein of thunderbirds so its includes a spray can, lots of RJ45 data connectors, a mini cadburys egg container and some plastic packaging bits. It Cost very little to build the structures and I'm sure Derek Meddings would approve of the approach.
Will post final effort in the gallery once the decals are done. Unfortunately I only got one set with my kit so will have to wait to get replicas made. Quote:
http://www.eagletransporter.com/foru...attach/jpg.gif Sorry about that last reply. I was testing to find out how to insert a pic into the text in full size rather than having it as a thumbnail and did not mean to post it. Anyone know how to do this? |

You'll need to save it on the web elsewhere and then link to it...
Love the diorama - where did you find the vehicles in that scale ? I would also be interested in decals for that kit if they were to be made available...

The flatbed truck looks like a 1/76th scale Oxford Models item.Could be model No78 MH003 repaintd but i'm not sure. This type of truck is a favorite with railway layouts. The car Looks like a 1950's Vauxhall Cresta estate car in 1/76th scale. Could be model No78 CFE004?

Hi W8cmp and delta tango. The vehicles are indeed Oxford but N guage (1/148th scale) and can be found at " any good railway stockists". They match the 60's feel of a lot of the background vehicles and add scale to Thunderbird 1.
The truck is a painted OXFORD NMH009 LMS MECHANICAL HORSE FLATBED TRAILER, with detail added for machinery on the flatbed. The car is OXFORD NCFE002 MOONLIGHT BLUE/BERMUDA BLUE CRESTA FRIARY ESTATE with a police light on top ( orange painted tiny blu tac blob!) One such online shop is: http://www.buffersmodelrailways.com/...wCat&catId=617 With regard to decals, I am looking at the following: THUNDERBIRD in the shorter ( finishing well before the skirt ) and not untra bold - Compacta Bd BT TB in Compacta ICG TB1 on engine section and smaller by nose, in Grotesque No 9T Will be sizing and asking Jimbo at JBOT to give me a cost and looking within UK too. Thunderbird 1 is weathered not and the power station and road has more detailing. Just the base surround to finish and the decals. Will post in gallery when finished. W8cmp, will value any thoughts on font choice, I know there are many variants for TB1 but to my eye these looked good. I will pass any info re pricing once I have the decal quotes. I have just received the JBOT angel interceptor decals for the UNCL kit and they are excellent, so hopefully Jimbo can do the businees for TB1 W8cmp, thanks for the help re-inserting pictures. This is a test. http://www.eagletransporter.com/foru...&pictureid=793 |

Hi foza 27. Thanks for the info. You've worked hard on that diarama and boy that looks good.
I like the idea of having the Vauxhall parked beside Thunderbird1. the "real" Vauxhall is around 14ft 10 inches long, making Thunderbird 1 quite large craft. Have you made any other diaramas forza 27? |

http://www.eagletransporter.com/foru...ead.php?t=5354 If you got a decal sheet made up I would be tempted to repaint mine and apply the correct lettering...would be happy to go halfs on costs if you think you can get some made up for around £15 ? Quote:

Slate, the kit decals are in two small sheets. the first being well printed spectrum roundals and the second the small A 737 for the tail, the red warning triangles and red ( for the sides of the engine and about 30 decals of generic wording ( techical decals )
The JBOT has the same but more clearer and better defined, as well as lots more technical wording, the big underside A, recue yellow signs, cockpit instrument panel and other numbers I guess to produce alternate Angels rather than 737 only. There are also B C and D decals to replace the A in 737. Hope this all makes sense. I think they are well worth buying. ON TB1, if the car is 14ft long ( 3.2cm in scale 1/148th ) and TB1 is 24cm long, then 24 /3.2 is 7. 7 x 14 is 105ft long so I would say its all about right if you take the generally accepted TB1 length of 115ft. Either way the Anderson shows were all over the place when scale is used so I don't really get bothered as long as it looks OK and in this case the numbers support it ( unless you think TB1 is smaller than 115ft ). As they never existed its hard to know anyway. If it looks good and represents what we watched on TV as kids, thats good enough for me. In building this diorama, I build it quickly, with bits from the spares box and sweets containers. The idea was to capture the spirit of the show. Having to quickly knock up a building/scene etc and have it look realistic. I am currently waiting for Jimbo at JBOT to get back to me with the pricing on the TB1 decals. I have gone for: small TB1 - Grotesque No9T Bold - 28pt Big TB1 - Grotesque No9T Bold - 40pt Big TB - Compacta 64pt Bold Thunderbird lettering - GROTESQUE 28PT BOLD – once adjusted total height should be 11.7cm. At 11.7 its more like the very thick lettering on one of the show models but not as thick. Let me know if you want a set too. Derek Quote:
Will be doing a SPV dirama next with the PE SPV. Should be a quick one too! |
