Default Models in the strangest places...

I was watching series 6 of Red Dwarf when I noticed this familiar looking craft (under StarBug) in a shot from the fiirst episode 'Psirens'.

It's obviously the rear of a Narcissus shuttle from Alien.

Anyone else spotted models in odd places? I know that one of the towers in the film Blade Runner was actually a fan-made studio scale Millenium Falcon - heavily re-dressed for the shot. I've got a pic of that one somewhere...

After watching "Blade Runner the final cut" Documentaries, The Dark Star model was also used as one of the buildings!

Actually if you go on a few frames you'll see an Eagle!

I'm sure a small model of the TARDIS cropped up in Red Dwarf in a hanger scene. I'm sorry, but I can't remember which episode it was, but I do remember seeing a picture of this.

There has been talk of the Millenium Falcon cropping up in the Borg battle in Star Trek: First Contact, but I'll be damned if I can spot it!

It may be CGI, but Firefly popped up in an early scene in the mini-series of Battlestar Galactica during a scene in the President's Office with Roslyn. Watch carefully out of the window at the passing ships.

Did anyone bother with the 'free' Falcon model with that Star Wars magazine? I got one yesterday.

Almost - but not quite. I looked at that one too. It has a spine, but it's not an eagle. I'll post a pic later - along with the falcon from Blade Runner (mentioned by me earlier).

It's great to see model makers and set dressers having fun on the job. Keep 'em coming!

There's an Airfix one in the background and clearly an Eagle. Unfortunately, I don't have the disks from which to take a grab. I can't recall if it's that episode (might be the one with "The Inquisitor") but it's the one where they're flying through a graveyard of ships.

It was on TV the other night. It's the one with the Despair Squid (?).

I thought the "Eagle" looked very much like that horrible one with the ladders for the cage work.

Default A note from Peter Tyler....

Firstly a warm welcome to Peter, secondly this:

"Just to put you right - the models used in the spaceship graveyard setting on a moon like landscape were as follows:

An Airfix Eagle Transporter, two scales of a fighter spaceship designed and built by myself and the yellow thing is part of the underwater wreck "SS Esperanto" Mike Tucker built for the Series 5 episode "Back to Reality". The probe hovering above it all was again built by Mike Tucker.

None of the ships were built by Bill Pearson.

Love the Forum by the way.

Best wishes from Peter Tyler".

Peter was the Director of Photography for Red Dwarf and sent me this link for The Model Unit it makes interesting browsing. Thank god all the talent from BBC Visual Effects has not gone to the four winds....

http://www.themodelunit.co.uk/

Look for the nice section from Red Dwarf and on the way marvel at the other projects like the destruction of Big Ben bell tower for Dr. Who.

I have asked Peter to share insights into his work, he is preparing a little something for us to drool over.

Thanks Peter.
