Steve have you ever considered straightening SZ up at all, or is he permanently set in the bowling position.

He is very old and delicate, and it would not be possible to get the clothes off without damage, so he will have to stay as he is.
I have considered transplanting the head to a replica body, but even this has tremendous risks attached to it and so has been rejected as a solution.

Default How on earth did I miss this thread...

Hi Steve,

Would it be possible to get a copy of your drawing? I am looking to kit Robert next year as a studio scale model. Please check this post:

http://www.eagletransporter.com/foru...ead.php?t=9546

He does look rather fantastic, I can only echo what others have said... Stunning!!

Best regards.

There were no formal drawings done, just a few sketches to establish the main sizes, in a notepad that I'm looking for at the moment.

I very much doubt that you will find the beaker for the head as I had this model in mind to do for many years and always looked at beakers with the head in mind. I made a more intensive search on the web when I decided to go ahead with the model but found nothing suitable. The closest I found had "Thomas the Tank Engine" printed on it and was a slightly blue tinge. I could probably have got the printing off but the blue tinge ruled it out.

The head you see here was developed in the flat then heat formed round a wooden mandrel.

You may also be interested to know that there are over 200 components in the finished article

Hi Steve,

Me too, been looking at all manner of plastic cups, bowls and beakers. Vac forming shapes is no problem, I own a machine to do that. Cutting all the pesky discs is no problem either, I own a laser cutting machine which leaves a perfectly transparent edge. Let me know a size and I will cut you some and send them to you. I presume you made his hands and feet the same way or did you cast them?

The internal greeblies are a problem which is why I am looking for as many images of the original puppet(s) as possible. I think I will end making casts of the major components and detailing up with smaller parts. If I want to make a number of these models as a kit it may mean buying a lot of items from RS or Maplins. I haven't costed this project as yet and there is still a lot of planning to work out but I'm optimistic that it's all doable.

I want to make a Jetmobile to display him on. I realise this is a model in it's own right but I think it would look fantastic. I do think the puppets are better seated at controls from a display point of view.

If you would like a few test parts drop me a PM with an address and I will send you some.

Best regards.

Is it me or is the Steve puppet's clothing tattered from old age? By the way he did very well with Robert.
