Way back in 1971. I was watching a programme about movie props. This included Props from the films of Ray Harryhausen and Gerry Anderson. Ray was interviewed by presenter Keith Fordyce. As far as I can remember most of the Anderson props were there. Sylvia Anderson and Derek Meddings were interviewed, but Gerry wasn't present. Keith was looking at the model of Thunderbird 4 that Sylvia was holding and asked her how much it cost? Sylvia said "It costs hundreds of pounds". Episodes from some Anderson shows were shown. they lasted about 2mins each. Episodes were.
Supercar: The Runnerway Train Thunderbirds: The Perils Of Penelope U.F.O.: The Responsibility Seat I also remember seeing the Puppet size Supercar with Troy Tempest laying beside it. I not sure if Mike Mercury was there and I also remember seeing the S.P.V. S.P.C. Joe 90 Puppet, Mac's Cottage and THE BIGRAT. The programme was broadcasted by Thames Television and I think it may have been made in colour. Do any of you guys remember this programme? |

Yes I do.I live in the Granada area and I am pretty sure it was broadcast before they first transmitted U.F.O.,in fact I think the show was partly helping to promote U.F.O..I remember Sylvia being there but not Gerry and particular emphasis by Sylvia on U.F.O.I also remember the place being pretty dark apart from the models which had been brightly lit to show them off to their best effect.I did not have a colour TV at the time (in fact we got our first one so we could watch U.F.O. in colour) but I am fairly certain that it would have been broadcast in colour. I would love to have a recording of it but I am sure it has been wiped unfortunately.

Well I maybe wrong,I thought the Gerry Anderson / Space 1999 Clapperboard edition had been wiped until I was very pleasantly surprised to find it on the Network dvd/Blu ray editions (even if it is not the best quality at least I can watch it again). Hopefully we will be surprised and find it on a future Gerry Anderson release.

That's good news about that Clapperboard edition! do you remember Magpie. I.T.V.'s answer to Blue Peter? I think it was about 1969 and on Magpie they mentioned a new puppet series called The Secret Service. I remember they had the remote controlled model of the Ford Model T in the studio.
The Secret Service was never shown in my area which is Anglia T.V. I had to wait years later to see it on video! So lets hope one day that exibition and that Magpie programme may show up! |

Now you've got me with magpie,I did watch it but I did not see the secret service plug.Another programme I would have loved to have watched/have is the Captain Scarlet edition of the Golden Shot, which you may remember. That is another show I watched but I missed the Captain Scarlet one!!!,unfortunately that one has been wiped and there are just a few still photographs left, the girl presenters were dressed as Angels and the targets were all Captain Scarlet themed, the Mysteron City and Cloudbase are two I have seen and Captain Scarlet made a guest appearance helping one of the contestants.Of course it is better to see actual models and Gerry or sylvia being interviewed in a programme but the Golden Shot programme is just so surreal it would have been a "must have"!

I remember watching that episode of The Golden Shot. When the show began. a clip from Captain Scarlet episode "Seek And Destroy"was shown. The clip was when one of the Angels shot down one of the Mysteronised Angel aircraft. You could hear Bob Monkhouse say the words " Up a bit stop. Right a bit stop.Fire! I've got him!" I also remember Captain Scarlet sitting in Col White's chair!
