Gingrich just proposed another with a goal of a lunar colony in eight years.
Whether he is the nominee or not, or wins. It's becoming more of an issue than I have seen in years. With shuttle retired, there is a public question of what next? Influx of private capital/impetus needed. NASA will never do anything but sit and commission another "study" of the feasibility of outsourcing costing studies on the price of paperclips.

Aren't there several private companies who are aiming toward space (Virgin, etc...)? I was rather bummed when NASA never came out with any real replacement vehicle for the shuttle (I know that money is the big issue too)...Its just sad.

I wish we'd see some of the world's richest people take the rubber band off the wallet now and then. Bill Gates, Warren Buffet, the Sultan of Brunei. Perhaps a private consortiium could achieve what bureaucracies seem unable to.

But havenīt Sir R. Branson started some Space tourisism project .. ?  The very rich folks should get together and start something big...

Couldnīt agree with you more, Ham Salad...
Itīs too sad that they stopped the Lunar program.. (Mans return to the Moon)... I really hope that they will change their minds...
