Oh. Okay. Mystery solved. I know who now. He got his as an unpainted but fully assembled model minus the chassis which he said he'd do up himself. He also painted it.

I just received some models from Small Artworks, among them were the eagle beak tank.
I have to say that it is worth the wait; and now that Jim's' back up to speed, You don't have to. Highly recommended. |

Yep.., I think it's nearly unanimous.. The Eagle tank RULES..!!
My personal favorite as well. It's such a shame we never saw them deployed during Year 2. It would have been so easy to change up a few Eagle cockpit details, show a little stock footage, and have feature a scene in one of them.. Such a missed opportunity. david_b |

Hi Guys,
Been following this thread for some time and a nagging question keeps popping into my mind. There are three very different designs for these tanks so it begs the question were they originally designed that way by the Alphan crew? What I mean is were they originally designed to be service vehicles of some kind with lasers strapped to their backs as an adaptation? The flat bed tank really reminds me of a towing truck for aircraft and the Eagle Beak version carries personnel I think. The bubble dome version would make sense if fitted with an excavator arm (like a JCB digger) the driver would need that dome visibility then certainly. Perhaps they were left over from the construction phase of Moonbase Alpha and were part of the adapt and survive policy? Cap'n What do we think, reverse engineer back to their original purpose? Captain Sci-Fi I absolutely think that they were left over from another purpose, like construction of Alpha. |

Since there is no season 1 confirmation of the three types of Laser Tanks being left over from SHADO MOONBASE '80s operations.
As we saw after the events of season 1, Alpha Moonbase personnel installed the perimeter Laser Turret batteries in bunkers surrounding the base. ![]() |

I knowI'm waa-aay behind the times, but... did anything ever come of Eagle-1's Laser tanks for the PE sized models?

It may be that I'm in error, but I was always under the impression that the Space, 1999 laser tanks were the UFO chassis reworked with new bodywork.
The more expert members here may well correct me if I am wrong, and if I am, then please do so. To me, the chassis looked identical in each case, with only minor details altered. Of course, the bodywork differed vastly, but it was the chassis which caught my attention at the time. I seem to recall also that at least one of the UFO moon tanks was based on an IS3 chassis, but I no longer recall which of the three seen it was. Hoping for some enlightenment on a minor topic that has always intrigued me. Kind and Respectful Regards, Uyraell. |

I believe all three chassis are the same, using the Tamiya Centurion tank kits as a basis.

Middle One..hands down the best. The first Alpha tanks I built (3 so far, working on a 4th), based on these, were a couple of Eagle types. The others are cool too!

Hello Shornak!
I see where your fears are coming from on having a big plexiglass 360 degree bubble/dome only as protection on the laser tank in a shirtsleeve enviroment -but remember, that dome has to be made of the same "tuff stuff" as the Eagle Spacecraft windows on the command module! It seemed to "hold up" well in the asteroid belt when Maya and the Commander where doing the 3 day "blue quadrant survey" in the episode "THE MARK OF ARCHANONS! |

Middle one here, same reason looks like an Eagle. The other two while sorta cool look like they belong in some Irwin Allen story.

Thank you for the quick replies, Jade Falcon and MKIXHawk.
My preference is certainly for the "Eaglebeak" (or should that be "Owlbeak", given that it is less-pointed and shorter?) tank, though in combat it would have issues for the crew in terms of visibility, i.e. they can really only see forward, and little to nothing of either side and rearward. I'd think they'd have external view cameras to compensate for that, however. While the domed vehicles would have far better visibility for the crew, it would be at far greater risk. Kind and Respectful Regards, Uyraell. |
