Default Eagle nose cone

Hi everyone, I'm new to the forum, but have followed some of the amazing scratch-builds and projects for a while now. I've been inspired to attempt my own 1/72 scale Eagle scratch-build, but o make things a bit easier, I was wondering if anyone here had a spare Airix/MPC/AMT nose cone (or even a half-nose cone). Failing that, would anyone know for a source of nose cone castings?

Any info would be greatly appreciated.

Mark.

PS, apologies if I posted in the wrong section. As I said, noob...

Hi Mark,

Go check out the WARP kit in the store, it's the most accurate kit available anywhere.

I really wouldn't go the Airfix route unless you really love the kit it's not a great rendition of our beloved Eagle whereas the WARP one is pretty much perfect and you'll be so much happier with it in the end.

Default Eagle nose cone

Hi Cap'n, thanks for the quick reply. I've seen a couple of completed Warp kits, and they are pretty impressive. My budget won't accomodate one at the moment though (almost 100 GBP by the time I ship it over here - I'm in Australia), which is why I thought it would be good to scratch-build the structure and pods and the geometrically simple bits. The nose cone is a fairly complex shape, and barring the rest of the kit, the Airfix part is a fairly reasonable rendition (with some extensive remedial reworking).

It's just the Command Module that he wants to use, Cap'n, not the whole kit.

Hi there Mark and welcome to the forum, Mate! I don't have a spare CM but I am sure that someone on here will be able to help. So I take it that you are looking to scratch build a 12 inch Eagle, or thereabouts?

Hi Darren, yes, 12" or 1/72 (not sure if the scale is too accurate for the Airfix model, but I've heard others refer to that size as 1/72). I have built an Airfix model with some modifications, mainly to the landing gear, nose and walkway structure, but haven't essentially changed the main proportions. My aim is to start with the basic Airfix nose shape, heavily modify the details, and scratch-build the rest of the craft. I thought about casting the nose cone from the kit I built, but I'm reluctant to dismantle the model (and possibly damage the nose). Hopefully someone has an old nose or two sitting in a spares box somewhere. *crosses fingers*.

Bugger! I was just going to suggest casting the Airfix CM that you have, but you beat me to it!

Oh well, apart from a "miracle find" at a garage sale or flea market, that would be my last resort. These things are in short supply these days, and getting scarcer, so I may have to bite the bullet (hopefully not though).

Hi Kostas, many thanks for your reply and your kind offer! Either one would be good, the James Small part looks a lot more accurate, I would prefer that one if you do not plan to use it for a project.
