Default My baby Orac build

Here's a short video of my baby Orac build.

I have yet to do the rods and tubes on the opposite side.
I'm not thrilled with the positioning of the tubes and rods; working from the photos was more difficult than I anticipated and I made a few errors.
I wish I had spent more time planning them carefully, but the mistakes are only noticable under close scrutiny so I'm not too upset.

I apologise for not taking more photos as I went along, but this was quite a messy build, with all the plastic chips, paints and adhesives!

Lighting is courtesy of the guts of a child's toy and some white led's.

I still want a 'normal sized ' orac. A kit would be nice....

Excellent work and very envious. Twice I started a baby orac and twice I gave it up.
The first time I cut out the shapes and holes but then got glue on them so that was that.
The second time after experimenting I cut out the holes in the sides using a router which does a great job in a few seconds but when fitting together I cut some bits too short so I gave up.
If you haven't tried a router then please do as it does a great job when using a bit with a collar and cutting anti clockwise. I will try again at some point but presently busy on sky 1 though I too would prefer a full size one as I had started to collect various bits and pieces.
Great work

I mean, with his amazing andy powers (and his lasercutter) it should be pretty easy....not to mention, dare I say it, profitable....

I would go for polycarbonate for the outer shell though: Tougher, better for a hand prop that will get knocked around.

Strange as it may seem, a 'knocked about' Orac looks better. When I first made mine, I realised that it didn't look quite right because it was almost too see-through. This was because the perspex was too clean and new. Now that it is slightly scuffed in places and a little bit dusty in areas that you just can't reach, it actually looks more convincing.

Andy doesn't own a laser cutter, he's actually from another planet, and can shoot laser beams from his eyes. Very handy for cutting acrylic sheet and making toast, not so great when trying to read magazines.

I thought he was a cyborg. Also, rumor has it he is actually 'The Stig' from top gear.
