Default A watch for my birthday

..to be precise, an Omega Speedmaster replica with a velcro wrap-around band making this into a copy of the watches worn on all the moon landings.

...as worn here by Buzz Aldrin. The long strap is to allow the watch to be worn outside the spacesuit during moon-walks.

Maybe one day I'll be able to afford a real Speedmaster - but 'till then, this will do nicely.

That's a great birthday present!

I love Speedys, one day I'll get my hands on a 3539.50 - I wear an Omega SMP 2552.20 at the weekends.

Thanks Madsen!

Link deleted, see below - Bernie

There are links to the strap and watch suppliers there. A word of caution - the replica is a mechanical automatic movement like the originals, and works well but the two chronograph buttons (and dials) don't really function properly, the hands move when you press the buttons - but that's about it.

Howard - I'm so jealous - you're a lucky bloke.

I'm currently looking through my apollo books and pictures to spot the watches on the moon. The wife is getting quite tired of hearing me say "look - there's another one, just like mine".

Thanks skiffy. It's a great piece. Still no luck finding the 3539.50.

A word of caution - the RPF domain name has been hacked and stolen, so the link above now leads to the RPF, but it's not the real RPF!
The 'real' site can be found at http://www.thereplicapropforum.com

Thanks Howard - I can't seem to get back into the post to edit it..

Please don't click on the link in post #5

Here's the proper link:

http://www.thereplicapropforum.com/f...-watch-126395/

Might be best to delete the original link (and any others anyone has posted from RPF pre-hack) since I got a sh1t-ton of spam today from this thread.

The RPF is having a rough time of it just at the moment, if you use both this site and theirs you are being warned NOT to use a common password.

It's a nightmare scenario to have your site hacked, this site has been affected in the recent past, it's one of the reasons why we have stopped editing of posts that are more than 24 hours old.

If you need something changed then by all means email admin@eagletransporter.com and we'll deal with it for you. It's a small price to pay for a secure, working website.

I hope they resolve the problems soon.

Thanks Cap'n. I sympathise with the issues the RPF are currently having, and fully respect your decision to block editing on old posts.

I've had sites and email accounts attacked in the past - and it's definitely no fun.

Here's hoping for a speedy resolution.

That's a really nice example, but you're right, they're crazy expensive. I think I might have to grab myself one of those replicas since I've been looking for one for what seems like an eternity. Either that or mortgage the house again and just do it!
