Default "Old" DVD versus new digital set

Hi,
I purchased the A&E mega-set (all 48 epsiodes) about 6 months ago ($199 CDN) and immensely enjoy it. However, I recently saw at the same shop what appears to be a digitally-enhanced version of all 48 epsiodes for $119. My Q is if this new set offers enough of an advantage over the older A&E set to warrant purchasing that one as well.

I may be wrong as I come from the UK, but as far as I'm aware there aren't any Network dvd equivalent remastered DVD's in the US. There are however two versions of the Megaset that as far as I'm aware are for all intents and purposes the same in terms of picture and sound quality.

Hi,
ii saw it about a week ago. The length of the box was about 1/2 of that of the mega-set, with much thinner DVD cases. I don't remember what compnay made it, but the box was blackish. I'm pretty sure it states it was digitally remastered. Are you saying that the A&E mega-set was also remastered, and this may be the same set just re-boxed?
I'm in Canada, not the US, if that makes a difference.

This repackaging happens a lot in the UK.

For example, Ally MacBeal was sold in half seasons, now they're sold in complete seasons with slimmer packaging.

Buffy, Angel and the X-Files have all been reissued with newer slimmer packaging. Star Trek has also reissued their series with slimmer bog standard cardboard cases, at least they have for TNG.

You have to be wary of these sort of things.

Hi again, you posted while I was digging out references. As far as digitally remastered goes, from what I read, this is an over-used term rather along the lines of 'New & Improved!' that does not necessarily mean all that much. Perhaps the techies among add can explain more. But yes.. the two A&E box sets are the same images, my only question remains if the bonus disc is included in the new, thin packs.

Ah, yes, I believe it is the 30th anniversary version pictured in the links. So, is it the consensus that they are indeed the same discs? The 30th ann. state digital re-master on the box, while I don't believe the mega-set did (it's at homw so I can't check). I was going to pick this up on the way home from work, but if its the same.....

I personally would hold off and use the money to get the Network series 1 set from the UK. The links I posted above discuss the Network set in some length, and provide further links if you are interested. Being on our side of the pond, you will need a region free DVD player to enjoy them, but it is very much worth the bother and hassle given the phenomenal quality of the images.

Eagle10, I have both the Carlton R2 set of Season 1 and the Network DVD of Season 1, and I'll back up others here, the Network one is superior. The downside if you're bothered about is, that in the Network DVD you don't have the subtitles, but the picture and sound quality more than makes up for it.
