Default SF & FM returns

Saw this over at starshipmodeler.com forum

Looks like an old favourite is coming back.

And this is so weird because last night I dragged out all my copies for a re-read!! Eerie....!!!

Still, looking forward to it...

I am so looking forward to seeing this publication, I will be sending in a subscription if they sell directly.

Maybe it's time to raise the board profile a bit and send in the web address, there is bound to be a listing of interesting web sites within the mag/book. Maybe even submit an article or two and show them how much we love 'em.

It was a shame when SF&F bit the dust, as it was a decent publication, so it will be nice to have it back again in this format, even if it means that it is only quartely. I will certainly be looking forward to adding this mag to my collection.

Same, same ..

I discovered the old mag a wee bit to late, so I've only been able to read some backcovers, that a friend of mine has ..... It's such a great publication.

So I can't wait to get my hands on this one ... and propably also buy up some backcopies.

Cheers

Default Good News!

Good News!

I emailed the mag last night and I've had a very positive reply. So much so that they wish to run a feature on one of the models built by of one of the members here!

(Details later once the individual in question has been contacted and agrees).

I'd just renewed my subscription (including to Club 57) when they folded

Needless to say, I never received any refund or even any explanation of what had happened despite a poliite email enquiry

Has anyone any idea if the new magazine will be available through news agents at all or will it just be specialist shops like Forbidden Planet etc and direct subscription.

While I liked the magazine I have to admit to reading a few in WH Smiths and not buying them all and that was when it was 3. Now its going to be 13 an issue. I wouldn't be in that much of a hurry to subscribe if I was you - at least until it has established itself - it could end up being a one-off and disappearing again with your money.

I think the problem, particularly with the later issues, was they went away from model making and into computer territory. The magazine didn't quite know what it wanted to be. I can tell you privately that on occasion we organised stuff for the magazine people to see and made introductions which they either failed to turn up for without letting us know and/or showed a lack of appreciation for. I know the lack of communication annoyed several people in the industry and made them far less inclined to help again later. Unfortunately, so much of the magazine content, at least from the "professionals" point of view, was based on goodwill which I don't think they realised. Our own Mark42 wrote many articles for them actually showing people model building techniques and his remain some of the best features they ran. Indeed his features were exactly the sort of thing they should have been featuring more of. You got the feeling that they were really scratching around for material in the last issues. By contrast, the 2001, 1999 and Aliens specials they ran were very good.

I completely agree with your comments, but I found, personally speaking that is, that when an issue was good it was very good, however some of the other issues tended to be a bit bland, or as you mentioned CGI based material, which, well to me at any rate defeated the whole idea of the magazine, interesting stuff on occaison granted but not what was wanted in many cases.

Mind you that did not stop me from buying them all, mainly for the sake of completeness, so I will look at getting the new version of the mag, and see how it goes, 13 per issue is expensive, but if there are only four issues per year then that is not so bad.

Yes the specials were very good, the're usually the ones I have to hand and as a result are a bit knackered - The last issue (UFO)was fantastic but my copy is getting rather tatty so I recently bought a spare on ebay.

That is a coincidence as I recently sold a spare one on Ebay........

I have the full run of the mag and all of my copies are in mint or near mint condition, even the original numbers 1 and 2, I made sure that I keep my magazines in good condition. I also made sure that I bought two of the Space 1999 and UFO specials when they were originally released, shame that I did not in fact buy few more of them, oh well we live and learn.
