Default Question about the Powys novels

I was just looking at some of these online, and they sound like fun. My question is this:

If I buy Eternity Unbound by William Latham, I don't need to buy Resurrection, correct? It's in the Eternity Unbound book?

Default Buyer beware.....

..... have no idea about your topic, Bounty Hunter but, if you're buying online, you have to go through Lulu. They mixed up my order (which could happen with anyone, to be fair) just before Christmas but, to date, I'm still waiting for a resolution. I don't mean to stir anything up here, but am simply curious as to how a simple thing like sending out the wrong book takes nearly two months to fix, still with no sign of resolution. Have sent several e-mails, and they've issued an apology, but that's as far as I've got.

Hopefully you'll have a trouble-free purchase - I'm sure I'm in a very small minority. Read any of the other books at all?

Kindest regards

Patrick

No, I haven't read any of the books at all. I didn't even know that they existed until yesterday.

And I've found them all on lulu. Sorry to hear about your problems with them; I've ordered from them numerous times and have never had a problem with them.

Default That's reassuring.....

Glad to hear it BountyHunter. If I ever get it resolved I'll post it here.

Correct. Eternity Unbound includes Resurrection.

Eternity Unbound is not currently available anyway. I think there are plans to make it available at some point.

I've ordered from Powys Books many times - both directly (before they started using Lulu) and once they started producing books via the Lulu website and never had a problem with either Powys or Lulu.

Default Comments appreciated....

...oddly enough, they've been back in touch now, stating they'll send out the right book. Hopefully that'll be it sorted and, if it is, I'll certainly post here to confirm it's resolved. I read somewhere that the earnest people running Powys were calling it a day after sixteen years of publishing - I guess, if nothing else, the books might become a wee bit more collectible?

In 1975 / 1976, I bought Alien Seed (7), Android Planet ( and Rogue Planet (9) in the year One book series, and re-read Android and Rogue recently, enjoying them both immensely. In those days, with few or no repeats on TV, no VCR and no internet, these novelisations were all we had to sustain our interest in 1999. How times have changed! Anyway, enough for now.....

Kindest regards

Yeah, I just checked the lulu site and Eternity Unbound isn't on there. Should I just get Resurrection then?

And glad to hear that your lulu problems have (maybe) sorted themselves out. Guess I'm good luck.

I'm just about to start a rewatch of Space: 1999. Haven't seen a complete run of the show since I was about 12 (I'm 42 now), so I am eager to get started. I was wondering if the Season 3 novels take the 'Final Message from Moonbase Alpha" fan film into account, or is it ignored? Or do the books take place before the film?

One last thing. Is there a chronological list of the books take place in anywhere? I've noticed on wikipedia that some of the books take place in year one, some in year three, etc etc. What order do they take place in relation to the show and each other?

I believe you will find the answers you are looking for in The Catacombs.

Default A good news story.....

.....The Forsaken arrived yesterday, and I'm two chapters into it already. Solid writing with several references to events in Season One, so I'm relishing the next part of the story. Fair play to Lulu - it took a while but they sorted it out, so I'd definitely dip my toe in again for another Season One novel.

Kindest regards

I've ordered all the books over the years and had great service with Lulu. But did have two glitches with them amongst all the orders - but one of them was actually very good!
One order was a damaged book and it was replaced within a week. Great service.
The other was when I ordered two copies of Omega upon its release - and then received one copy of Omega, and one copy of Alpha - which had yet to even be announced for publication!!! very exciting to get an advance copy by accident.

the reading order of the books is for the most part the order that they were published. One exception being the recent The Whispering Sea.

Resurrection
(Android Planet)
(Phoenix of Megaron)
The Forsaken
Survival
The Whispering Sea
Born for Adversity
Omega
Alpha
Children of the Gods

Shepard Moon is a collection of short stories that can be read anytime, but it fits very nicely just prior to Omega

It seems I've spoken too soon when I said I've never had a problem with lulu. I logged in today to check the progress of my order, and it says I have 'No Recent Orders'.

I paid, but apparently I have made no orders. This is great.

Default Bad news story.....

Bountyhunter, sorry to hear that - at least I had the wrong book and the delivery slip to prove what happened - you've nothing to show for your payment. I feel sure it'll be resolved, but it may take a while. Fingers crossed anyway.

Kindest regards

Yeah, so the books actually just showed up. Lulu contacted me and said they had some kind of glitch, which is why my 'recent orders' is showing up as empty, and also why my payment still shows as 'pending' on paypal.

hahaha But at least my books showed up. Guess my luck is holding. Crazy.

I would just like to add that I have purchased many Space 1999 Powys books through Lulu and I have always had very good service and fast delivery from them. I often receive emails from Lulu offering a discount or money off postage charges which has meant I can often save money on purchases also.

My most recent purchase from them was the 'Space 1999 - Episode by Episode' book - Petter Ogland (ed.), which is a great read (715 pages in total !), but please note, unlike all other purchases I have made through them, the text in this book is very, very small...

But well done and thanks to Powys and Lulu for keeping Space 1999 very much alive.

For those interested, the newest novel has just been released and made available through Lulu.
Although it sounds like there isn't local printing and shipping for the UK these days, making it more costly for some.

Thanks for the update - I ordered it recently on the website (with a 10 % discount code I had from a recent Lulu email) and it arrived quickly to the UK and very well packaged. Nice 2 page 'forward' section included by Barbara Bain.

On the back page, at the end of the acknowledgements section, it states 'Moonbase Alpha will return...one last time.'

Are these series of books coming to an end ?
