Default A wooden shape - or something else?

Hey folks.
Its identity time again i'm afraid.
Got me a hankering to make Klegg's ship, and i did think the very distinctive nose cone must be a custom made wooden one because its SO distinctive.
But, looking at it here, that looks an awful lot like a kit shape near its neck.
One that fits far too smoothly against the curve to be an addition imo.
So, thinking maybe it is some kit part or shape from something or other.
Any ideas what might be going on please? (note the X-Wing parts on the sides of the rectangle shape to give it scale)

I have the feeling that all that detailing (it's on other parts of that model as well) is Plastruct Fineline styrene "half round rod" (the codes in the EMA catalogue all start with "MRH-", on page 5). The smallest outside diameter is 0.8mm, followed by 1.0, 1.5, 2.0, up to 6.4mm.

It's possible the nose is vacformed, this stuff would stick to plastic better and easier, but that's just my guess.

Wow, if that's the case then someone went to a heck of a lot of effort detailing up a ship that's bearly seen on screen, and in quite a long shot too!
