Got my first prop kits from there, in around 2001. Colonial Marine Flamethrower and Marine Helmet by Frontier Models .Both long gone from my collection.

The walk from Clapham Junction was a killer

I wonder why the CM site went down with no mention of a new business. And you would think it would be good for business to at least keep the old site up until the new one was ready - which is still under construction. I was speaking to Tony at Telford a couple of weeks ago and he didn't mention anything.

Long, long ago, before the internet, I would travel down to Clapham to visit Tony's shop up that long steep hill. It was an aladdin's cave for sci-fi modellers and there was nothing else like it.
I bought lots of Imai and Bandai kits from him, one I remember was an Imai Skydiver kit that I bought for 40. I made a damned good job of it but painted it dark metallic bronze green (which I still think looks better than its proper gold colour).
I bought some resin kits from him as well which were dire but not his fault (Huey & Duey from Silent Running / UFO SHADO Interceptor / UFO SHADO Space Shuttle and Carrier / UFO SHADO SID, to name a few) and their own vac-form XL5 and Stingray.
Since the internet revolution, I rarely travel to shops, preferring to buy online, as no doubt do most people these days. Comet Miniatures is a shop that I will sadly miss but I am likely one reason why it has closed.

Comet's prices were silly to be honest. When you look at the prices of military and aircraft garage kits they are roughly half the price of the SF garage kits he was selling.
He also seemed to charge mad prices for Japanese plastic kits (of which around 99% have the price in Yen on the end of the box as part of the code)... even allowing for duty and taxes they were still pretty high.

I bought one of the resin Special Weapons Daleks he commissioned from a company called Reshape... and to say it was rough is a kindness. Air bubbles you could park a bus in and quite roughly cast in places. I've never bought a Japanese figure kit or resin military model as bad as some SF garage kits.

Tony's wife had been ill - seriously ill. I think he shut the business because she'd died.

You might as well put Frontier Models on the list with Comet Miniatures as well.
Because their website is down as well,I have been trying to contact them about
a couple of kits that I had ordered from them. But I had never received any other word from them about it for a couple of months.

If anybody has ever ordered from them or had any communication from them
and who wish to get their money back from them please let me know.

Apparently,I am not the only one who has been having problems with them
with my orders.I had posted Frontier Models full e-mail and mailing address
to help anyone who had problems with ordering from them in the past to
contact them to find out what's going on with them.

If anybody else has made contact with them, please let me know.

This is the second time I have seen the Timeless Hobbies URL being starred out like it was some sort of obscenity on this forum

Strange. Doesn't work as a link either.

Just Google Timeless Hobbies and it comes up straight away.

Sad to see Comet close ... Personally i never had any probs . Tony lives in the next town to me and quite a few times when i'd bought stuff over the phone , he's lugged them back on the train to save me waiting for Royal Fail to deliver ... Buying stuff from the comfort of my own setee is great , but nothing beats spending hours wandering around a model packed si fi shop .

Comet's was always on my list to visit when I went to London. I still remember Tony's words '.. and the humor is free'. In may we're going to London again. It will be strange not walking up Lavender Hill.

A bit late to start a new conversation about Comet and Tony, but I met Tony again for the first time in about 15 years, last month at Telford IPMS - it was great to catch up with him and Matt Irvine together. We all know Comet was pricey but I did not really mind paying the premium across the counter as I always felt that it worth it having looked around the shop which was as much an exhibition as it was a model shop.
Tony did me a big favour at Telford and held on to his last stocked Pegasus Hobbies Spinosaurus that he had other buyers for, and allowed me the 2 days to search for the T-Rex which was my first choice but to no avail anywhere in the show - Tony then dropped the price from 55 to 40 for the spinosaurus - not bad at all
