Default New here- built a 22" MPC kit

Hi- My first post here- very inspired by all of you! Was in my LHS and couldn't resist the new Eagle. A very fun build, which I did over 8 very busy days. I removed (with a saw-ouch!) the astronaut heads from the kit and added them to some old 1:48 navy pilot figures I had. The eagle pilots, in turn, are now helmet-less, using heads from the same figures. Thanks for looking!

Day job=college teacher. Summer time is pretty open so I was spending, like, 5+ hours a day. There's just so much to clean up/ assemble/ paint that you can keep very busy with this kit. Can I stop with just one?

Great work for 8 days, Paaron!

I think I will take more like 80 to make mine though, since I left my modelling days in childhood and need to relearn.

I knew I had to have this great kit though, if only to exorcise those childhood frustrations with the Airfix version which just didn't look right.

Are your engine bells the plastic ones? How did you get the metal finish?

I was wondering if it's worth getting those pricey deluxe metal parts.

No its not woth spending silly amount of money on metal engine bells. There are plenty of metallic paints available that will give a good metal finish to the engine bells. When I built mine back in February I used metallic paints called Alclads which need an airbrush to apply and aren't easy to get a good result, but I've been using them for several years so know what to do - this is wht mine looked like...

For my build I used the plastic kit nozzles. I used Tamiya metalic silver spray from a rattle can. This needs a gloss black undercoat, like the Alclad paint, but you don't need the airbrush. I did use an airbrush to spray some tamiya acrylic bronze color on the bells to look like some heat staining. If you are going to do any of this sort of "weathering" (is there weather on the moon?), I really don't think the aluminum bells are worth $100 more.

Yeah, I learned about Alclad recently and the results seen in Boldmans pics look very convincing.

Time to dig the old airbrush out...

A very nice job indeed! The green fuel balls are a nice touch and contrast.
