Default Fab 1

I've given up looking for a mint Dinky Fab 1 - they all seem to top-out at silly money on eBay.

What's my next choice? Is the Corgi any good?

Corgi models are usually good, but I don't have any experience with the particular model to which you are reffering.

The Corgi model isn't as good as the original Dinky. It is too short, too narrow and the canopy sits too high. BUT, despite that, I think it has a charm of its own and I really do quite like it. As you say, an original Dinky collects silly money, so around 14.00 for the Corgi is a way cheaper option!

The new corgi model is actually slightly longer & wider than the dinky & according to my kitchen scales, a few grams heavier. The canopy does look a bit bulbous though compared to the Dinky & the TV version.

The corgi is a bit of a mixed bag, it does correctly have one door either side, though this is clearly too large. The famous radiator is squarer than the Dinky, but I think this closer to The TV model.

I bought one of these newer corgi's to sit along side a well used Dinky version I bought off of ebay. I didnt have the pocket money in the '60s to buy a new Dinky, so the Corgi will have to do. (If you discount the PE prop replica on the shelf )

BTW. This a great site

Ive been using that UN so long I nearly forgot what it meant

Corgi also have a 'pearlescent pink' Fab1 limited edition available, all the same features of the standard though curiously missing the famous spirit of ecstasy from the radiator. The paint finish best resembles a deep metallic pink party balloon, one of those you get from a party supply shop.

Fortunately, restoring a well worn (and reasonably priced) Dinky Fab1 is straight forward once you drill out the baseplate rivets. Steve Flowers can supply the missing pieces.
