Default Thunderbirds Puppet paint and body

Hi,
Just have to say this is a great forum and you guys all do a fantastic job

Does anyone have plans they are happy to share so I can build a TB puppet body. And also does any one know the correct shade of paint for the TB Heads?

Many thanks for any help out there.

I've got a few books on T'birds and apparently the heads were painted with copious amounts of Revell paints or the equivalent when Airfix were at a premium.

This does ring true as if you look at the whole series, and zoom in on the dvd, the heads seem so shiny. Then again. they are puppets!

Good luck.

Humbrol had a virtual monopoly on the model paint market. Having said that, I'm not saying they were painted in Humbrol either. One of the puppet guys here could probably elaborate.

Thanks for the info.
That is the first I have heard they were painted with the Airfix type of paints. Would this look OK for a replica that will sit on a shelf? Rather than an item that was made to be filmed for TV under much stronger lighting?

Can anyone tell me that has made their own puppet what they have used?

Also there seems to be a lot of puppet heads on e-bay at the moment. Is there anyone that can be recommended?

I don't think they were painted in enamel paint because of the soft area under the mouth. You could paint a rigid version with enamels but it would look wrong if painted completely matt.

Isn't gouache water based? As far as I can tell you, I haven't got a clue! Chris King would probably know.

Its not Enamel, as DX SFX says enamels would not allow the lip leather to flex. PM me
