Sounds like there's going to be a complete re-issue of everything, pity they couldn't re-do the TBs

Quite agree Tony, when I heard they were doing the humble pie gig I mailed them and guess what the reply was, yep Jack.

No surprise there then...

I thought these pics might prove interesting in illustrating the problem with the shape of the IR Hawk CM. Posted with all due defference to their original owners...

First the original large Hawk model:

Then a replica by a well respected member here:

And now the IR Hawk:

Draw your own conclusions...

Good shots, this throws some light on what everybody has been talking about.

The first one is Fantastic,...........Can't afford it.
The second one is Excellent............no time to make it (too many projects)
The third one is very nice and comes with a case ready made and im gona get one!
(a slightly inaccurate hawk is better than no hawk at all!)

Kinda with you there - hell I bought two PE23s. That said though, IR have had plenty of time to get the Hawk right. There will be no excuses.

Those comparison pics were a good idea. Makes me wonder though...what exactly did IR use as their reference for the Hawk? Did they have a studio model to work from...?

I couldn't possibly comment but draw your own conclusions from the track record.

I'd much rather get the model being redone as a limited run for forum members than waste it on an oversized Airfix model. Sorry its been a long day at work.

I tweaked your pics w8cmp - hope thats not a problem - tried to get them all to the same scale and rearranged. Think like your pics this speaks volumes. Although not as bad as the first protype, its still not quite there. I'd like one but I'm not racing out to get this like I did the Eagle - I will await market forces - if any, otherwise I'm not going to cry over missing out, I have my Eagle and I'm happy. Needs to go wider at the widest point and the cockpit windows need to angle in towards the back - bu then the pics show that. Its close but no cigar.

I had a rummage through my unmade kit collection and compared the Airfix, Replicas Unlimited, Warp hawk Command Modules with those shown above and one I got from Jim Small. None of them match on even the simplest thing such as the raised panelling. Jim's is the closest to the original and I know why.

What I'm saying is this:
1) Without recourse to the original prop (and we know there was more than one in different 'scales') a reproduction can never be faithful. There are no blueprints - paper or digital - as these models were one offs
2) Even then there will be decisions taken by the company to reduce costly detail
3) It appears IR cannot (or will not) approach the current owner of the original(s) to get an accurate picture - for heaven's sake there are services now available to laser scan artifacts, so the time taken and intrusion would be minimal. If it wasn't for some of the senior members of this site and others, there would be no originals to even look at!
4) Despite all this (and a local Chinese Halfords to provide the paint jobs) they offer these models as a "Faithful reproduction of original Studio Miniature used in the show" - poppycock!

I was going to buy one of these when they were first touted, but even before seeing the detail, I was worried. After the true TB2 paint scheme became obvious (so different from the sales picture) I looked again at this orange monstrosity and backed away.

It will sell, as others have said, because we live in an age when practical skills are being lost and, let's be honest, those who would appreciate (let alone recognise) a Hawk are at least 40 and are unlikely to be able to make one as good - even from a production kit manufacturer.

If people like Jim Small and Chris Trice were unavailable, yes I'd buy one. If I couldn't be bothered or felt unable to make one, yes I'd buy one.

But the internet is a great tool in this respect and those of us with the time and the patience DO have a choice. However, we must recognise that there will be a group of our own members and the wider public who would rather just buy the finished article - even if they know there are faults.

IR seem content not improve on past mistakes, so the business can't be all that bad. When I see their new 'replicas' I think of 'take one' of that immortal Main Mission computer announcement 'Human Derision Required'. Kano fed it a new till roll and 'take two' went swimmingly - taken from the forthcoming authentic replica book 'The making of Space:1999, by Terry Anderson'.

In short, I'm avoiding this one, but there will be others for whom it is the only option.
