Default Let Down by Max, all these years later

I was cruising about youTube and came across this:

I remember looking forward to this film. I think Mad Max speaks to life in general -- and disappointment in particular. Max never had a happy ending. His best friend got, well -- you know... and then his wife, well... And his son... And then his dog... and his car....

And then... Beyond Thunderdome.

But Mel -- what the hell happened? He was young and cool. And then, I swear, he suddenly wasn't young and he wasn't cool. Which means... uhm... I'm not young and cool.

Of course, I was never cool like Mel. But -- seriously -- what has happened to our icons?

How true. Mind you I don't care much about being cool. I was told when I was a young fella, that one either had it or one didn't ... and I didn't ... so I never bothered.

I hear 'Doomsday' is very much in the spirit of the 'Mad Max' films... anyone seen it?

I wasn't aware that you knew me Claire...
Summed me up brilliantly, I must admit.

Oh dear. Don't take it personally Doomsday. The events and persons depicted in this film are fictional and any similarities to events and persons in real life are totally unintentional

When has Malcolm McDowell never hammed it up?

It was during the first 5 mins of watching my Mad Max DVD that I noticed a lack of Aussie voices from the actors and spotted that it had been dubbed - why? It's not like it wasn't spoken in English. There was an menu option to put it back to the original otherwise it would have gone back to HMV.

Well, there are these movie executives who reckon that no one else can understand these Australian accents. So movies like Mad Max was dubbed for the US audience - even though we spoke propper English. Other films like The Castle have also been "dubbed" in spots to allow for certain local differences. (The routine about the cars in the driveway was changed and rissoles was changed to meatloaf plus one or two other things as well - all for the US market. Not sure if they were changed for the UK market.)

Now, if I can just figure out why Anthony Perkins had to play an Australian Naval officer in the movie On The Beach, then I will be a happy man....

Bummer - beaten by Claire....
