Default John Glenn Health News

I'm hearing in today's news (07/Wed) that John Glenn - ninety-five years young, bless him - has been hospitalized. Not much more than that, though...

Anyone out there seen/heard anything further?

Default Thanks for posting....

Wasn't aware of this Boatie - thanks for drawing our attention to this. I'll be honest, I didn't realise he was still on the go. Venerable gentleman, what a pioneer. Keep us posted as you'll possibly hear before we do.

Kindest regards

Pat

Never imagined it'd be so soon, though...

Only The Times newspaper carried his passing as front page news. Very sad news indeed.

Default Sadness, Aboard Thunderbird 5...

The latest Anderson website newsletter is also noting John Glenn's passing - and that John Tracy was named in his honor - plus a link to the excellent story in the New York Times; definitely worth the read...

Meanwhile, out here on the so-called Left Coast (!) - Friday's Los Angeles Times led with an enormous B&W photo of Glenn and Friendship 7 on page 1, plus 2 additional full pages of coverage inside. Also well worth a look! (http://www.latimes.com)

I understand 17/Saturday's service will be carried by C-SPAN (http://www.c-span.org); not immediately aware of any others who might be also, but check in your area (note time difference, too)...

Default Home to Arlington...

On a very rainy Thursday in Virginia, his fellow Marines escort John Glenn to his final resting place at Arlington National Cemetery...

I really like the way the named different equipment to honour crew and others in the space program. Imagine if the Spitfire was called the Churchill instead

A quick Bing search revealed at least 5 ships currently named for American astronauts:

USNS Alan Shepard (T-AKE-3)
USNS Wally Schirra (T-AKE-8 )
USNS John Glenn (MLP-2)
R/V Neil Armstrong (AGOR 27)
R/V Sally Ride (AGOR 28 )

Anyone out there know of any others?
