Here's what I have so far. I took everything off except the wheels. I'm trying to figure out the best way for that.

The crew cabin comes off of the base and it breaks down into 2 pieces. It was a little tricky.

The windows came out pretty easy. They have silver paint behind the front headlights but I scratched off most of it so I can add some LED's.

I'll add fiber optics to the panels in the crew compartment. I have to find a good spot for the switch.

You can see the amount of brown taken off in the second photo. I used a fine grit wet sandpaper.

The improvement is striking. It looks like you started with one of the clean versions, but without the mud it looks so much better.

I love the idea about lights.

I've just seen the pictures on the other thread, keep them there so we don't have to move between two threads. Or start another one with links to it from these two.

The axle cutting sounds like a brilliant idea. I would suggest a motor set up from a Tamiya tank or something similar would work quite nicely.
I'll look into the motors. The problem is the axle sits really close to the bottom of the chassis. It would need a belt or gear to make it work. If you know any motor websites, please feel free to post them.

Does anyone have any close ups of the decals?? They are missing a bunch and I want to make them. There's a yellow circular one on the back and some numbers missing.

I might try to fill the panel lines a bit because they are really deep and make it look too fake.

Great work FB!

While you're at it - can you alter one of the clone brothers sitting in the cabin so they're different. It really bugs me those guys are identical!

Agreed. That's what I did, as you can see from the other thread. In fact I changed both slightly.

I really like the fact that you're going to put some lights in the cabin. Sadly it doesn't fit the set at all and I doubt the studio model either: still fun to play.

Great work with those clones Tony!
I hope the new IR Mobile addresses this problem...

I found that photo too. Nothing is really in the right place in the PE mock up cabin interior so I added a bit here and there and followed Mark42's idea of keeping it dark so that one doesn't draw attention to it.

About 2/3s the way down.

FB can I draw your attention to this thread regards image posting guidelines please, you need to reduce the size of the image as it is distorting the board.

Gotcha!!

I keep reading that the paint to use is "Ford Arctic Blue" and someone else said they used "Ford Cobalt Blue". David Sisson used "Peug/Talbot Cascade"

What is the consensus to the closest matching paint??

My brother in law owns a body shop and I want him to mix up some paint as close as I can get.

thanks

I just found out that the front air vent area comes off. It has 2 posts that fit into the body.

I thought the black textured area was plastic but it's actually part of the die-cast and just painted black.

Decals!

Here are the decals I need to make. If anyone can decipher the words or have a higher resolution image, please let me know.

The bottom photo is what I created in Illustrator so far. I guessed at most of them.

Might help a little...

(Apologies if these belong to someone here...I have a feeling I was sent these images, but don't know who sent them to me...)

The black square and registration number comes from our old friend the Airfix B29 Superfortress. The white stecil text came mostly from a UPC military kit (I think). The round blue and yellow motif comes from the Hawk/Testors Kaman Huskie. I've a feeling this decal subject was covered a while back.

I'm not actually looking for where they came from, just what they say since I will make my own water slide decals.

#2 looks like BC
#5 looks like RADIO EXT

Good find with the grill. I'm enjoying watching this thread. I would be interested in decals when you sort them out.

Is there a letter inside the black square? It looks like an R or H.

Also, if anyone has the original decals, can they tell me what they say or scan them??

If I can get this made, anyone will be able to make decals for their build-ups no matter what size they are.

I still need # 1,3,4,6,8. Does #2 say BC or 8C?

I found a hi-res of #7.

thanks
