Default B7

Hi all whilst digging through some old photos the other day I came across some pictures I took of the large Liberator model that was displayed at the Model Engineers exhibition some time after the end of thethird season.
Apologies for th equality of some of these but i only had a Kodak pocket instamatic at the time (remember those ?)
A lot of damage had been done to the structure not including the paint job applied to make it look as if the hull was dissolving.
Anyone know, or have pictures of its current condition, i had heard rumours that it had been restored.
Those of you of a delicate dispostion look away now....

The Liberator is still in the same sort of condition today and occasionally gets displayed by its owner Mat Irvine, but there is another good replica around that occasionally gets reported as being the original.

As far as I was aware, Mat Irvine's Liberator was a reproduction built by himself, as the original one (or all that's left of it) is one of the engine support stems... :-?

Seems I've been misled....

There is some confusion over this subject matter, or different stories, I'd really like to see the model up close myself but it certainly looks like the real deal from photographs.

Thanks for the info Cricket very helpful, here are the images.
looking at Mark42's photo there has been some considerable restoration since I last saw it, shame its not gone all the way, but reading the various postings on the Alien thread it would appear to have become a bit of a controversial subject, pity.

What was the deterioration about?... as in what caused it.

Tony,

it was a cloud of fluid particles that adhered to the ship's surface, basically eating it away at a faster rate than the Liberator's self repair could maintain.
This came about because Avon recieved a mysterious message that he had to follow a pre-determined route, with no deviations. This led the Liberator through an immense cloud of fluid particles, which Zen advised not to go through...

Default The Original Liberator Model?

Hey All!

Here are some links to shots I took of the large Liberator model at Collectormania May 2006.

Sure looks like the real deal to me -

... and showing the two missing bits that make the other one an original.

Nice photos BTW.

Thanks for showing all the pictures lads as this is one craft that I would like to tackle one day.
The pictures by Sage are interesting as they clearly show the model is in one piece shortly after the series ended. Therefore the destruction scene did not turn it into a box of spare parts.

I can wholeheartedly recommend the Titan Find kit.

The usual warning applies though - don't pay any attention to the painting instructions. You can also toss the decal sheet in the bin, 'cos they're way out of scale.

If this *is* the real thing (going from the painted-on "damage", it seems likely), is it right to leave it in this condition or should it really be restored?

I get the feeling the Liberator was destroyed not so much for dramatic impact or storytelling but simply for the effects team to rid themselves of a troublesome prop.

For me, the Liberator's right up there with the Enterprise in design terms, and if this is the *original* three-footer, then she should be returned to her original condition.

God I'd forgotten the System Pursuit Ships-could have rebuilt my Comet Liberator as one after it came second in a fight with a passing loft ladder

Great photo's stiki, I didnt realise that the London still existed, it seems to have fared better than the Lib.
Here are some more pics of some of the above ships that I took at one of Mat Irvine's lectures at the afore mentioned Model Engineer exhibition in the early 80's, hope you find them interesting.
Pursuit ship.
System fighters.
Wanderer class cargo ship from episode "Killer", amongst others.
System "pain stick", (a bigger version of the Lib hand gun).
Lib hand gun.
Dr Who "Invisible enemy" shuttle.
Atlay shuttle.
Apologies again that they are not as sharp as they could be.
