Default Now available: 3D printed Dinky Eagle pods

Over the past few years I've been using my 3D printers to produce many various scale props and upgrades for the various scale Eagles. Lately my focus has been on augmenting the wonderful Dinky Eagles. The transport pod it came with was, considering the toy-like structure of the door, very nice, but the strange (but fun to play with) Freighter pod always confused me.

Anyway, I knew there were other pods, so I decided to make them with my 3D printing tools. As many of you know, I have some items on Shapeways (you buy from them, they print and ship, I get a TINY cut, but it has made a lot of collectors happy.)

About a month or so ago I opened an ETSY store to sell my own 3D printed pods (I print and construct and ship).

I started out with four pods:
- VIP Pod
- Winch Pod with Winch housing
- Pallet Pod with six canisters
- Laboratory Pod with Spine Booster

Currently there are also:
- Rescue Pod
- Heavy Lift Boosters - which you can attach to existing transport pod - (But please don't use permanent glue on a vintage gem!)
- Heavy Lift Boosters with Pod - (solves that problem!)
- Moon Buggy Transport Pod - my first, and NOT my only ORIGINAL idea for a pod - complete with lowering ramps and six moon buggies

And coming soon:
- Nuke mines and claw
- Winch head (which will be added to the WInch pod)
- Liquid Nitrogen Tanker (another original)
- Cargo Pod (another original which works nicely with a new Matchbox HEMTT truck that's on shelves now.)

You can find my store here

These look great!

How about a replacement beak that's more correct?

I have just announced (on facebook last night) my new Replacement/Enhancement project on Shapeways, where I'm beginning to make available various replacement parts.

I'm focusing on the spine, the jets, various bits, but I have no plans to change the nose of the Eagle.

Is there a problem with accuracy on the Dinky cockpit? I quite like it... I know a lot of that model is inaccurate (the spine!) but the beak never struck me as off...

It's sort of squashed top to bottom so that it ends up not tall enough, and the window cutouts are a bit small

I've just taken delivery of a winch pod and a rescue pod and they fit my Dinky Eagles perfectly. Obviously as they have been printed on a home 3D printer they are not perfectly smooth, but they are good enough when viewed from normal distances. They come ready assembled and printed in the correct colour, and Sean even threw in a couple of moon buggies, some moonbase logo stickers, and a small bag of spare parts. Highly recommended!

Thanks, Calligraphics!

Yes, they are home printed, so you do get print layer lines at .15mm, the highest rez my printers can manage, but they display beautifully (if I do say so myself) and are rugged enough for play. I always include extra parts because some of the tinier ones may fall off and need replacing, but hopefully not. Extra stickers too, same reason.

Each one is printed in multiple parts, printed IN THE COLOR, so there is no paint.

I sell them on Shapeways too, which prints at a much higher resolution, but they are also far more expensive. But they print as a single piece and painting is required. I also have versions of several pods for the Konami Eagle as well are there on Shapeways! Reviews are always excellent. So far everyone loves the ones they got.

Thanks for posting! I appreciate it!

I am currently working to adapt some of my own designed pods for Product Enterprise Eagles (not selling the ones Sixteen 12 sells, that would be pointless as theirs are FAR superior of course!)

They do display beautifully and if it wasn’t for the shipping and customs duty that those of us in the UK have to pay I’d be ordering ALL of these - I think they’re brilliant and terrific value.

Yeah, I wish there was something I could do about that. The whole point of customs and duty is to encourage people to buy in-country when a product may be cheaper overseas.

But... this isn't available anywhere else, and should be exempt from customs and duty. It's not like you can order from another guy in the UK...

I, too, wish that would go away so more of you UK folks can have these without being punished by extra costs that should not be there. After all, there are far more fans of 1999 in the UK than anywhere else, and more Dinky Eagles there than anywhere.

I can see no way around it without breaking laws.
