More news from Warp:

Another update.

Application of the decals. Took about four and a half hours all in, but this was broke up over the last couple of days.

Fine pointed tweezers and a scalpel with a new blade is a must. I would highly recommend a gloss coat to the parts so as to give good adhesion. The pic showing the decal cuttings are what's left over from the four little sheets so there's plenty extra in case of accidents.

A drop of PVA glue in with your decal water helps and will give a good grounding for the decals. It is fiddily and a lot of patience will be needed.

Before I continue with the detail painting to the pipework and raised detail, I will most likely coat the model with varnish to seal the decals. I will give it at least twelve hours before applying the coat and then I won't go near the parts for at least a further twenty four hours after that.

In the meantime there are the engine bells to be prepared and painted.

Another update shortly. Much thanks for the enthusiasm of the forum members and the growing order list.

Best Regards

Chris

Fantastic work indeed “Mr. Warp” …and thank you w8cmp for posting so promptly these updates.

Now, having the studio prop right in front of me as I’m typing this (and if you’ll allow a personal remark) let me just tell that your paint job on the side-boosters seems to be just a bit too glossy.
On the other hand the colors look spot-on…a perfect match with the original ones!
Thank you for making these boosters a reality!

A glossy finish is a must to apply decals so my guess is that Mr Warp will seal the final finish with a clear dull coat (that's how I build models anyway )

Small Update from Warp Models:

Side boosters
Well after that comment about the glossy finish on the boosters I decided to 'Matt' them down. I'd been increasingly unhappy about the Humbrol Spray matt varnish that I used with reasonable success until it reacted with a project that was painted with Humbrol enamels. So, after a considerable amount of research I got hold of a Games Workshop 'purity seal' satin varnish. Now I was led to believe that this was acrylic based which shouldn't react with the previous coats....right. Disaster!!! This varnish proceeded to EAT my humbrol green side booster side tanks!!! The other paint being the White and orange was OK (Halfords Paint) but there is a little reaction with the hand painted pipework but this is not major. Anyhow, after a spate of tantrums, kicking the dog(s), followed by a brief period of depression I have now succeeded in repainting the green side tanks (Halfords Emerald), followed by the notorious citadel varnish. Now all is needed is repainting the white detailing and mounting on the closest Eagle to hand. So these pics will follow shortly. Also, in the meantime I am currently completing a Comet order, for early next week.

Computer Meltdown
Just after Christmas my computer decided to hit me squarely on the forehead with the biggest spanner in christendum (spellcheck). Complete loss... I got expert help (for the computer, not my psychological state), but nothing was recoverable. Had to reinstall everything from scratch. To make matters worse 80% of my backup files won't run...much of which was research data.

My Health
Well apart from having a stinker of a cold for the last five days, I'm fine.

So, I'll get you some pics shortly. I hope to have the booster kits fully available for February (this year). Nice to see there are at least twenty interested parties and that they're still alive.

I've used Microscale Micro Flat - it's water based but did a beautiful job of matting am Airfix 1/48 Hurricane with no apparent change to the colours
