From UFO's Reflections in the Water: That dreadful scene where the scuba divers are swimming around the outside of the underwater Alien dome. The final effect looked totally fake and unconvincing namely the little puppet figures shimmying around the outside.

The one that has bothered me since 1977 is the Tusken Raider in Star Wars waiving his staff up and down. They reversed the film back and forth and its terrible.

Most of the 'Voyage to the Bottom of the Sea' TV series has awful SFX.

Any movie made for Sci-Fi TV with its awful CGI. Why do they bother??

I think in The Exorcist II they speeded up a woman crawling on the ceiling where the effect worked.
It was creepy!

Okay, if we're going to do Star Wars, I nominate the failure to properly, fully and completely rotoscope Obi Wan's light sabre blade in his duel with Darth Vader on the Death Star. There's a point where the "blade" is pointing at the camera for a moment or two and you can see that Alec Guinnes is holding some sort of glass or plastic rod with twinkly stuff inside. Even with the new and "improved edition" with all the new digital bits (including the gutless, wussy "greedo shoots first" cop-out) they miss this. Get some glasses, George.

P.S. Some of the X-wing pyro stuff really looks bad, too.

Or the small alien creature with the 'see right through the head' eyes in the Cantina scene.

In Return of the Jedi, after at least one of the speeder bikes crash int a tree the wire used to fly it into the trunk is visible with burning bits stuck to it.

The Ewoks are pure brilliance compared to perhaps the worst character ever conceived... f**king Jar Jar Binks. Actually Brian Blessed's voice over of Boss Nass comes in second. They should both be "pewnished"

Back to Thunderbirds: TB1's 90 rotation in the cradle whilst descending the ramp to the launch bay - you know: Where we see TB1 starting down the ramp with the word 'Thunderbird' toward the camera, then cutting to a side view of it descending Top left - bottom right and the 'Thunderbird is STILL facing the camera

In some of the surface scenes in 'U571' the submarines are rock steady even though there are small waves. Must be bolted to the filming tank floor. They should move at least a little!!

Well, that's poor continuity - which was a weakness through all their shows. It wasn't really a poor effect though, was it?

My favourite is star trek the motion picture - when the epsilon 9 station is destroyed by v'ger a model astronaut takes his spacewalk a bit too far and bounces off the camera. Having said that though I think the rest of the effects are stunning, considering the film is 30 years old.

Another one I find annoying is in close encounters of the third kind - when the mothership arrives at the devils tower it looks at first as if it will descend - however the shot shows it skirting around the side of the mountain, close enough to be making some kind of contact.

Don't mind the ship so much, it's the iffy way it lands on the Moon which lets it down for me. Just sort of 'dumped' there.

Wonderful. Nothing wrong with the sfx there. A question, I know he was doing all the voices, but was he a ventriloquist? Brilliant all round, and very funny.
