Default Ron Cobb Book Colorvision

I have an opportunity to purchase a Ron Cobb artbook entitled Colorvision that was published in 1981. The book is supposed to contain his concept art for Alien and Conan. I was wondering if anyone on the forum owns this book and can confirm that it's a good resource for Cobb's work. It's only 84 pages and if I choose to buy it I'll be paying over 50.00 for it. I don't want to get this if it's not what I'm being told it is. Any reccomendations would be appreciated.

ABSOLUTELY SNAP IT UP!!

I don't know what the going rate is, but if I didn't have it already I'd pay that. If you're a Cobb, Alien, or Conan fan you want this book! It's a phenomenal resource!

A great book! I bought it when it came out. There are 24 pages of Alien, and 11 pages of Conan artwork - some of which you wont find anywhere else.

That's good enough for me. If the 24 pages for Alien contain his great Nostromo exteriors and interiors I'm sold. Thanks for your help guys.

You'll also find his designs for shoulder patches, ship signage and Jones' carrying case.

There's a particular Nostromo illustration I've been trying to track down. I saw it in a documaentary on the DVD, but it wasn't included in the stills gallery. It shows a nearly side on view of the Nostromo with its landing struts extended and it's colored a rather bright shade of yellow. Is this in the book?

Sure is!

If you miss out on the book for any reason, you'll also find that drawing in Starlog 57 from April 1982, although the reproduction is nowhere near as nice.

Ron's website has been under construction for a while. As it is there's some pretty cool stuff to see. I particularly like this Mobile Escape Pod.

Thanks for the help JD; I appreciate it. That link was very cool. There's no doubt in my mind that I need this book for my collection.

Just 'rediscovered' this image on my pc, and this seems the thread to post it on.

There was a lot of talk in interviews when Alien was in release about how Cobb's Nostromo designs were sorta-kinda-getting-there close to what was wanted, and that eventually the modelshop just went ahead and amalgamated a bunch of concepts and came up with the final miniature.

I bought into the story until I came across this pic:

Looks pretty damn close to me!

That is too cool, JD. I like this and the yellow marker sketch he did which is also nearly the final version.

Agree with all the comments of the above, it really is a great book.
Was his work many moons ago that inspired me to get on with the Nostromo blueprints posted on the Alien Hardware thread.

Oh, man! I've been chasing down this book for close to 30 years because, like an idiot, I didn't snatch it up when I saw it on the rack at the bookstore, thinking that it would be there later when I had more money to spend.
Who'd've thunk that it would go out of print right away?
I've been haunting all the used bookstores since then, and I even had a close encounter with a copy about 15 years ago (couldn't talk the guy into selling it to me!).
This is why I'm so much of an impulse buyer now.
I'm almost ready to shell out the $50 to Amazon...

You should shell out the 50.00. The book is definitely worth it.

Ron Cobb is my favorite designer, IMO his hardware style is the coolest. Was lucky enough to get this book from someone who no longer wanted it.

That sounds like an awesome book.
I dont think I've ever seen it.

His Conan designs were pretty snazzy also.

I do have an old book of his political cartoons from the early 70's.

An interesting man.
