Default Liberator flight deck

Well, the Blake's 7 section has been a little bit quiet of late, and as it's a bank holiday here in the UK, I thought I'd liven things up a bit and show you the progress I've made on my latest B7 project ...

The Liberator flight deck set. The Liberator was destroyed at the end of the third season of B7 as that was supposed to be the final one. As far as I am aware (and I've asked many people about this), NONE of the flight deck set was saved (with the exception of the panel that was used on the teleport controls, in the possession of Mat Irvine), and somewhere on the outskirts of London it's 35-year-old landfill, under about 20 feet of rubbish. What a shame. While I'm here, does ANYONE know of any part of the Liberator set has survived?

If there is no "reel" (to use Mat Irvine's phrase) Liberator flight deck "out there", the next best thing will be a replica ... not of the whole thing, that would be silly. I'm building the pilot's "station", a seat (it's actually more of a "perch") with the steering "arms" attached, four instrument pods and the stand/platform to which they are all connected.

I was lucky enough to get to measure Mat's panel, so those are the only real dimensions I've got. I started this in mid February with a quarter-scale model of an instrument pod ... three months on, I've got the four fibreglass pods I will need, and I'm just about to finish plug for the back of the seat.

As Roj Blake said, "Right, let's get on with it ... ".

That is a marvellous piece of interior decorating. You will have to perch on it when watching episodes (not season 4 obviously).

Thanks, Kevin. I've managed to decorate most of the interior of my workshop with chopped up bits of polystyrene and urethane foam, not to mention dust.

As soon as I've finished watching the third season I shall set it on fire and fall off it, probably whilst wearing a comedy wig.

EDIT: Thanks, Andrew! We must have been typing at the same time.

Not sure if these are of interest but I found the below on the net a while back. No idea where they originated from but credit is due to the artist.

They really are a beautiful set of renders.

I had a look around, and the original artist is on deviantart.com, called skororu.

Cheers! If you've got a spare warehouse you don't want, I'll make the whole flight deck! Same goes for T.F.U. too!

I've got one, it's about 1000 square feet, or about 35' on a side....

I'd pay for shipping.

Say, if you want to make a spare pod or seat casting, I'll buy them and pay shipping.

They would really help with reshoots on my B7 movie.

Hi Ham,

If you were "over here" or I was "over there", you would be more than welcome to borrow it.

If you want a casting or two to "do it yourself", I don't see a problem with that.

Just tell me how much. I'd like to make at least one 'chair control pod" so I can reshoot some stuff that looks too degraded (that was originally shot on 3/4" tape, and there' s edge damage and signal loss in some places.

The fellow who originally played Reg Flake actually looks better now than he did then!

Well, that's a stroke of luck. Anyone you know?!

Let me get it all finished, then we can talk. I'm working on making the moulds for the back part of the chair at the moment, I will pop some more photos up later.

Sure, his name is russell. Not a good actor, though, really...but I have to take what I can get.

Do you do fibreglassing? I usually laminate wood into the top and bottom of the pods (and I will have to do something similar with the chair too), that might make postage rates stupidly expensive.

If I was to send one pod and a chair just as lightweight fibreglass shells, would you be able to laminate in the wood required and also (if you require) make additional copies of the pods?

Sure, a lot of what I make is fiberglass.

Only with your permission.

Yes, not a problem. It's not my design. It'll be nice to know I've gone "international"!!

Ooh, and here are a few more photos, like I said. I've finished making the rear moulds for the chair plug, off they come tomorrow!

Ah, so you have a fiberglass sprayer. I see the ice warrior is coming along well too.

Sprayer? Ooh no, that's a bit "modern"! It's good old brushes and buckets for me!

Ice Warrior body's just about done. Arms and legs next, the joys of repairing aged latex!!
