Damn! You're right! I just looked at it, and it is a little warped. That's resin for you. OK, I yanked the rear end loose and will give it another go. Should be easy this time - practice makes perfect!

Oh man i glad you caught in time, here's the build review that i originally read way back when RU23"s first came out. It covered the same problem your having.

Hey Jeb - you know I looked at that review on the Starship Modeler web site but missed the bit about the spine. Duh!
I've been busier than all get out the last couple of weeks and haven't gotten hardly ANYTHING done on the Eagle. But, I do have a few updates. First of all, the BIG NEWS Is that I just today received my spine booster kit from Jim Smalls. WOO HOO!! Thanks, Jim, and my brother Bill, for buying me this for my birthday! Next up, I got my mold making & casting going again, with some fresh supplies from SmoothOn. Among other things, I made a master for that tank wheel part that is on the shoulder pods of Eagle 3, and started casting copies. Here's 4 molds I've made along with some castings of various bits from 4 different models: And finally here's a closeup of the tank wheel parts: You can see the mold itself, as well as the master I made the mold from (center of picture), and 2 castings that have been cleaned up, and 1 that still has all the flash on it, fresh out of the mold. I also snagged some hemispheres out of a Revell Gemini kit to add to the shoulder pods. So now it's just a matter of finding the time to get back to doing some real work on my Eagle AND now the spine booster as well. That's it for now, from here. Ciao!! |

I've been salivating for a spine booster for a while now, Jeb!!! I've also got 2 or 3 other builds going simultaneously - breaking my cardinal rule NOT to do that. Anyone know which forum I should post pics of a non-Space 1999/Gerry Anderson sci-fi build in?

The A Matter of Balance section is the best place for real space or aviation stuff or if it's Sci-Fi you could put it in the Breakaway section. Have you started that Pl 1/350 TOS Enterprise yet because you have a thread in the Star Trek Section already. Oh speaking of Star Trek i just saw the new movie.

Hey Jeb - haven't started the big Enterprise yet - it's waiting until I finish the Eagle. There's no way I'd try to tackle both at the same time. I started working on the spine booster unit last night. I got all the excess resin sanded off so next I'll start assembling the thing. It LOOKS like a fairly straight forward build except it's going to need some internal pinning to hold it together. But that's par for the course with resin kits. If I have some brass rod of the right size at home I'll probably do some work on it tonight, otherwise it'll have to wait until I can get to my local hobby shop.
AND I saw the new Trek flick Saturday and it was pretty cool, except I thought that the main villain (who shall remain nameless for the sake of not spoiling it) didn't look BAD enough. He just looked like a regular guy. I'm not sure if I like how the new Klingons looked, either. But, the sets were AMAZING. |

Yeah i agree about the main villain not looking mean enough, i thought his acting was good though, have been watching the news coverage coming out of Moore Ok this afternoon as they were hit by an ef4 tornado live on television. They were filming from a helicopter as the funnel stayed on the ground for 45 minutes! Anyways can't wait to see how the spine booster comes out.

I heard a little bit about the tornado, but, in all honesty, I don't "do" news any more. I quit last year. It's just all bad, bad, bad.
Here's a pic of the spine booster parts after most of them were cleaned up and the flash removed. When I saw them like this I thought "Man, that don't look like much for $90" but I reminded myself that with these small 1 man companies, you're paying mostly for the time & effort it takes to create the original master parts and for the molding & casting, which is all VERY labor-intensive. Note the amount of resin dust all over the place! ![]() |
