Default New Star Wars kits , anyone got'em yet ?

I notice ModelZone are stocking the new Revell Star Wars Tie Fighter and Landspeeder kits and wondered if anyone has picked them up yet . In hand the boxes seem nice and big , but although I'm a fan of this range , 24.99 is a little steep at the moment, ( Christmas on the horizon etc ) especially as you can bet they'll be reduced in price come the new year !

Yep I've got the speeder, don't be fooled-the box may be big but the speeder aint! the scale is not given and I wrongly assumed that the kit 'halves' would run the length of the box, they don't-Doh!! If you scutinise the box, it says (in tiny print) length 243 mm. The kit seems quite nice, but a missed opportunity for a decent scaled kit.

Any idea on the scale of that speeder then? Does anyone know if it is anywhere around the 1:72nd scale popular for the Finemoulds kits?

From "Starship Modeller " .

The speeder looks o.k , though a little basic ( like a lot of this range ) but I'm really quite excited about the TIE , if it's as good as the Vader ship , I'll be satisfied . .

The Speeder is about 1/14

The Tie is about 1/41 (although Revell is listing it as 1/57 which is way too small considering it is bigger than the Fine Molds 1/48 Tie)

Picked up the Kenner 'vintage' range land speeder at the weekend and it looks as good (if not better than the kit) Plus it's bigger, cheaper and comes with the fancy floating motion But seriously, I think it could be a very nice model with a bit of work. I'll post some comparrison pics later.

That speeder does look good , but can you clear something up for me ? Is it the "old " speeder spruced up , or is it a completely new model ? ( I'm a bit of a fan of the 'ol Hasbro Speeder , I still have the 1st release from back in the day and I have the re-done version from the 90's ).

Well to tell you the the truth, I'm not too sure, the last 'toy' speeder I had was the original release as a kid! And although I loved it to death, it wasn't a patch on this version for accuracy So I don't know if this is re-tooled or what, not much info on the box either-seems to be mostly in french!! would love the appropriate figures to go with it, eg Ben, Luke etc, but they did't have them in stock (got it from Forbidden Planet in London)

From your pics it looks like the new speeder has a more accurate "depth " ( the old one was about an inch high ) . Ah well, that's something else on my shopping list for the new year !

Yep it's way more faithful to the film prop/miniature, more like a collectable than toy-it even comes with Luke's 'wamp rat bustin' laser rifle that clips to the side! I hope to build this into a decent tatooine diarama next year

Picked up the new Revell Pocket TIE, a Pocket Star Destroyer and the larger Sith Infiltrator from my local model shop the other day. They're all fit the box sizes. The Star Destroyer is tiny. The TIE is actually quite large though the pilot looks too big for it. The Easy Kit Sith Infiltrator is more expensive but a good size - about 8.5 inches. Simple but fun kits. Clone Wars Y Wing next year please Revell?

This is the first I've heard of these new kits ! The larger Sith Infiltrator sounds tempting , though as you say , they can be a little pricey for what you get . Luckily , if history repeats itself , these will probably turn up discounted in some shops . ( I've yet to pay full price for one of these kits ! ) Any chance of some piccies Yorkie ?

Not built them yet, probably put them in my own Christmas stocking for something to do in the holidays. Given that they are simple kits for kids, the TIE fighter in particular is a little gem - nearly 5 inches tall, the solar panels just fitting neatly in the box. Must be the biggest Pocket Star Wars kit yet. Price of the pocket kits has gone up though - 8.99 this year - last years Star Wars pocket kits are still 6.95.

Some pics on a fan site here-

Popped into the local model store again today (Saturday) and they had the Revell (ex Moebius) Galactica, Viper MkII and Viper Mk VII. Just came in yesterday. 20 each. Picked up the Galactica.

Excellent ! The TIE Fighter and Sith Infiltrator are definately going on my Christmas list . Slave 1 and the Star Destroyer have diorama possibilities as well . On the subject of the Battlestar kits , I'd seen ads for the Revell versions and assumed they were a NEW kit , not re-issues of the Moebius models . This is great news , as they are now at least 10 cheaper ! I can now afford to catch up with the Galactica and Mark VII Viper !!
