Default AB Hawk Finished

Finished the AB Hawk. Quite a lot of modifications, including hollowing out the Command Module, replacing all the white metal truss work with plastic tubing, redoing most of the main engine bell and engine mount, replacing the underwing weapons pods, replacing the solar panel assembly and reshaping the sting on the front. Oh, and Tak's Centuri Spacedock decals added just behind the demarkation line on the CM (thanks for making these, Tak)

Unfortunately my paint work turned out pretty poor so I weathered it pretty heavily (works well for the photos). Also I made a fairly big mistake with the orange as it came out too bright and orangey, so I've cheated and altered the photos in Photoshop.

Meant to say that it works out nearer 1/39 scale than 1/48, which is smack in the middle of 1/35 or 1/48 and as I couldn't find 1/35 crew figures I used the Gemini 1/48 ones. 1/35 ones might have looked a bit too big anyway.

Tak

Thanks. It's quite small but here's a photo where you can see its location. Unfortunately the closer you get the worse the paintwork becomes:-)!!!!

Great work, Keith. Big fan of your models AND photography.
Any chance of getting these photos in higher res?? If you have them?

BEAUTIFUL! I'd love to see some higher resolution pictures. The Hawk has to be my favorite science fiction vehicle of all time. All from just one episode....

I specialise in those. I think they're referred to in the industry as 'arms length' models!

Very impressive work, but the nose cone on this model looks far and away to be the least accurate of all the current available models.....

Sorry about the delayed response here Keith,
but,
Good Job!

All the parts we discussed worked out well it seems?

Thanks Rob.

Yes everything you mentioned went well. Thanks very much for the advice as it certainly helped clear up a few things and saved me a lot of head scratching!

Hey Keith,

No problem. You're welcome. You picked a nice orange too!

You ever feel like doing another, and I know it's a pain in the rump, but we'll talk about fixing that Command Module. The viewports straight from the box need to be opened up a bit. I've done it to one of mine and it ain't fun!

No chance of me doing another one - not at these prices:-)!!! But thanks for the offer!

I did do work on the windows actually, and also had to reset the side walls in front of the windows as in the original they were at 90 degrees.

Thanks

Ok, I've got an idea.

I plan on making a new CM for my HAWKs using the heavily modified version I now have on one of mine. It'll be as close as possible to this other one I've made (32" version), but will fit the AB.

Front View
Angle View

Want one when I do?

It will mean hacking yours off, but I'm making a master for mine and your welcome to one if you would like?

Many thanks for your kind offer Rob. However I would almost certainly never get round to such majory surgery, so I if you don't mind I'll live with the Hawk as it is.

Thanks very much though.

You're welcome. Thought maybe you'd be interested???? I forgot to mention, a "free" CM. No problem at all though, I do understand about cutting the old one off. It's not something many would do.

Not at all. It's not up to me to mind at all. Strictly an offer. You're one of the only other people I know who owns one of these things.

Rob

I do appreciate your offer, but I'll still pass, as like you say, I'm not that keen on doing major surgery and all that would involve with repainting etc.

I've got so many things in the pipeline (next up will hopefully be the new Zero X - received a note from UPS saying it was posted on Friday airmail) I'm unlikely to revisit past models.

But thanks again.
