this truck was made from 1962 to 1966. So it would have covered the Thunderbirds era. Have we found what we're looking for guys?

It does look very close - if this was available as a kit with a removable bonnet, this may have been left off, and a new piece built to replace it.

The truck does look close indeed. Regarding Tracy's racing car. I think this car was scratch built. The design does look like that of the Mustang prototype, but not sure if it was based on a kit. they seem to be at least 2 if not 3 versions of Tracy's car, each looking different in contours.

Found this if you scroll down looks like someone adapted a kit to make fire chief wagon , these kits seem to have opening bonnets. There is also a link to a site so could well be worth emailing

Yeah, I think Revell, A.M.T. and may be Monogram made kits of these trucks. so the're would be a huge choice to pick from. They were known as Chavrolet Suburban which was enclosed and Chevrolet or G.M.C. Pick Ups. G.M.C.stands for General Motors Corporation.

The truck in the photograph was a 1969. with minor changes, this design of truck ran from 1967 to 1972. The changes seems to be with the radiator grille.
The '69 would make a nice Thunderbirds Ambulance indeed.

Thunderbirds did come out before this design of truck by a couple of years, so the truck would not have had a roll, but with a little modification........

Yes, I'm sure you're right - the BR2 racing car was an in house creation, though the FX modelmakers would often be inspired by contemporary concept designs.

Yes, the two pods mounted on the front of the BR2, reminds of the pods on the BlueBird record breaking car of the 60's. Add the design of that mustang and the FX modelmakers wisdom, there'd be one BR2 on the road!

Hi guys! I was wondering if the Matchbox Ford Zephyr 6 MK3 model no 33b or the Matchbox Ford Fairlane model no 55b could be converted to a Thunderbird
ambulance? I remember seeing the Fairlane Used as a police car in Stingray And Thunderbirds. I wonder if this would work?

The Husky Citroen DS ambulance turns up pretty much unmodified in Sun Probe IIRC.

I think the citroen DS was used as an Ambulance in france, due to the "Magic Carpet" ride the cars gave.

Sorry to raise this one from the dead...

There seem to be 3 different ambulances. Or at least 3 different fronts.

1. Has a straight bumper (or fender)
2. Has a bumper with an indent for a number plate
3. Has a bumper with an indent, and a circular shape in the middle of the grill.

Also in all cases the grill appears to be covered with matt silver duct tape (or similar).

The design of trucks changed in 1960 from VERY 50's looking trucks to the more 'modern' shape they used on Thunderbirds.

1964 trucks are probably the latest issue that could be included (as filming was underway in 64).
So the truck should come from 1960 -1964.

It looks like it's a pickup truck, converted.

I think it's probably a Ford with the grill covered with silver tape. Probably a model of one of these

If it is a kit, it'll probably be AMT, Monogram, or Johan.
If it's a toy...

Just some thoughts

Jim

Default New Release

This might make a good base for an Ambulance.
It's not how they did it on the series but, it looks the part...

Base for the Ambulance was possibly a 1963 - 65 Chevrolet C10 Fleetside

Before 63 the grill is wrong, after 65 the film was already shot...

I built a CGI version of the hover ambulance, this is about as close as I got.
Let me know if you want the plans.

Fab looking.
I always like the guest vehicles in many of the shows.
On another level I'm always amazed how people can create images like above, its completely over my head.
