Hi Guys
Just about ready to start painting SKY 1 .

Next wk weather pending , i'll spray the wing tips first white , and then i'll mask them off and apply the gold colour , a couple of coats before a gentle cut back , then the silver and black , then the nose cone colours.

As you can see the windows have been masked off already for primmer painting
enjoy

Hi Guys

Managed to get the guide coat on today ,first i sprayed the model a dark bronze colour its so good i'll be useing this on Eds car , this was then rubbed back and stopper filler added again on any imperfections ,then the top colour added , ford oyster gold the bronze underneath gives the paint a little more depth , again more stopper applied to any more little imperfections ,i came across.

At this point im just a bout ready to apply the final top coat of gold , before the silver and black are added.

Hi Guys

The main gold colour is all finished , the wing tips and the missle cones and the top of the tail fin are painted white so now ive started painting the silvers area's , any touch painting will be last .

The rear section im really pleased with, im going to add a slightly different shade of silver to give a panel effect later on , ive also just sprayed the leading tail fin edge silver .

Next job is the leading wing edges

Hi Guys

This wk if been busy adding some of the other paint work colours needed to bring this model to life , at present im still on the black area's over the top sides of the wings , these black strips i think are just tape on the original , what a night mare doing these things , sounds silly but if you look at the white wing tips it looks as though the strips run at a angle that are not square , but those large plastic pieces that are above the rocket motors mounted on the wings look as though they run the same distance apart , in other words they run parallel to these , any way im happy with the results , but untill all the other colours are added , then i can use the 2 other shades of gold that ive had mixed to add contrast before adding panel lines etc then dirting down at present its too clean .

anyway just in time for the wk end
more next wk

Hi Guys

Well nearly finished , the basic colours, just the red strip and then a gun metal look for the nose , after that the fun starts , you can see a little of the overlap colours around the side guns area as a test look .

First thing is to mark out all the flap area's , so contrast gold layers can be built up , also around the main body and wings , masking off area's that i'll add weathering detail later , adding decals etc , panel marks copying over as much as i can , too make it look like a, original screen used model .

Hi Guys
Managed to get the overlap gold applied last week , first thing was to mask off some panels following the pattern photo's of the original hero model, then over spray with the darker gold , all the flap detail were scribed in and then once the masking tape removed left a nice contrast detail area , that now needs outlining in dark grey pencil and pastel shading , then i can add the distressed rust look to the clean panels that were masked off .

Next job is too repeat the underside flap detail , before scribing the side panel details ,before adding the decals ,and then the bit i love weathering the model, to match as best i can the original model .

So loads left to do but the finish line is now in site .

Hi Guys
Thanks for the great comments .

The last couple of days ive spent adding in the worn panel effects , trial and error on a few area's that match the original model, problem is while trying to keep the new build looking as though its not 40 yrs old , but still having that look , so i came up with the idea of slight over spray of bronze then back to the gold colour , and then t cut it, i still need to tone the worn panels down with another over spray of gold for the final look .

Now at this point i could add some black ? just slightly around the outer edges or just mask it off and varnish keeping a more new look ?

Once all the decals are applied , i can then add in some pastel shading , and
tone the model down .

Looking good Pete, this is a complex paint job and you are doing it justice, well done. When I painted a large Angel Interceptor I would add the weathering with an airbrush the knock it back with a light spray of the white body colour and I ended up with a very pleasing subtle effect. I'm following your build with interest....keep up the good work.

Cheers Dave
I managed to tone the panels I've sprayed so far late this afternoon. I'm really pleased with the results , you can still
See them though the over spray very gentlely given that effect .more like how Sky 1 would have looked while being filmed I'll post some more pics later this wk

Hi Guys
Here's a few photo's taken this afternoon, boy this craft is looking awesome , as you can see the worn panels have been tonned down and ive startd to add some weathering and panel lines .

Black biro pen out lines some of the worn panels while black paint give contrast .
Shading has also been added over certain area's blending the panels .

Im now at the stage where i need to tackle the rear silver area , also underside of the model again adding scribe lines and detail to match the original.

the silver area's it looks like again Tape has been used , and over the yrs aged , so i expect i will use the same method , except over spray with silver, so you will see some worn panel underneath .

Decals should be ready late next wk , so i'll add these and weather them as well .

so still loads left to do
enjoy more next wk

All the decals have been applied, all the red stripes have been painted on and just the underside area's need a slight t cut just to even out the paint finish , the white lines are tape .

Next job is to detail the leading edges on the wings and tail fin , and adjust the weathering before sealing the model .

enjoy best

Hi Guys
Hope you all had a nice xmas ?.

Started back on Sky 1 today , as the kids are still on there xmas holidays , i thought i would carry on with the build , nearly finished all the paint work and decals are now all finished , ive clear lacquered the panel work , and all that needs doing now is a very quick seal of the pastel weathering , but at a slight distance so the effect from the panels still has a gloss look ,and may be some air brushing, then the two switches need fixing down with small srews , lastly
the guns need to be added , these need to be turned on a lathe first , so once all built , its ready for Shado con 2 , the diver section will be moulded in the middle of next yr , so next job will be back to the Intercepter and start the moon mobile pattern .

Happy New Year
Best
Pete

That looks very sweet Pete, I would be happy with the result if it were my model, I think you captured the essence of SKY 1 perfectly.

Hi Guys
Ive finished the SkY1 build and she looks great ,the guns were fitted yesterday and then just a little bit more weathering and sealing .

Wow what a great build project this has been and its not over yet , the Diver section is being collected in two weeks time ready for moulding , so in the mean time its back to the Intercepter , and start the Moon mobile pattern
and any other time will be cleaning up Eds car .

Ill take some photos of all the UFO hardware together in the next few days
so you can see how they all look in scale with each other .

So all i need now is a UFO too shoot down , launch SKY 1

best
