I would bet my bottom dollar the only reason the BBC commisoned a new Dalek design was because of the huge amounts of cash they will make in merchandising them in the toy market. And we all know collectors will buy every one...in every size...and in every colour. Character Options will be having a field day.

I asked Character Options what their plans were regarding any new remote control Daleks...

"We can confirm that there will be the following Daleks; - 5" Remote Control Victory Dalek and a 6" Remote Control New Blue Dalek, these will be available from June 2010. Also there is a 14" Remote Control Dalek Supreme this will be available from August 2010."

Argubly it seems that Steven Moffet is trying to leave his mark on the show hes changed the Tardis, the Consol room, the screwdriver etc, the Daleks where going to get it as well. A grand new Dalek Empire in the same design and boring color scheme we've had before wouldn't really have showed this too well. He also wanted to give the Daleks their original Cinema look.

At the end of the day the who production team probably ain't scheming on what toys they can make more on creativity.

...except the one in the pic is far better in my opinion! This design goes way back and the full size prop has been in fan circles some time now. Note the ball joint on the eye-stalk just like the "new" Daleks and the large "ring" around the weapons boxes and enlarged "fender". More images here :

Just goes to prove the fan built creations are just as good...if not better designs than the BBC ones.

Want to bet ! Moffat has changed things for the sake of change. Very disapointed in the new series so far, with the exceptopn of Matt & Karen. New Daleks are just silly looking, not threatening at all. The "old" revamped Daleks looked as if they were tough as hell and it was only when R.T.D ran out of ideas as to how the Doctor could beat them, that they became totally vulnerable. Don't even get me started on what they have done to the theme tune, gone has that wonderfull background beat with the violins (?) and instead we have this poor soppy version. Like the interiror of the Tardis but still hate the consul. Whats wrong with having someting that at least looks like its advanced technology ? I mean taps for god sake, what are they for. I had high hopes for Mr Moffat but I think he has blown it.

I feel that the new designs that the BBC came up with for the Daleks
in Episode 3 of Dr Who's Fifth Season, they look more like overstyled
escapees from a bad amusement park ride. The sight of them hardly
scared the pants off me.

Even the colour sceme along with the new design that they came up
for them, the Aaru and the Century 21 comics versions of them had
more colour, more style and class than these so-called"new"versions.

Maybe if they applied those colour scemes from the 1960's comic series
and the 2 movie features to the 2005 revamped versions for this series 5th season, that would had really brought the threat of the Dalek menace back
to life!

Let's face it,nobody cares about respecting or staying true to the classics
anymore, tis a real shame it is.

The primary colors of the new Daleks will create sales of the merchandising. Some fans will want to buy every color of Daleks.
