Hi Guys,

I know of at least three of these original guns to still exist.
I originally saw two in the Blackpool Exhibition in an exibit of props in the early days...
I dont know where those went after that, but there you go...

I know of two originals owned by an ex. Vis Effects Designer. (They may be the two from the Exhibition, I don't know...)
I know of another one owned by a similar source (which I helped by providing the original Perspex the correct Perspex to restore.)

I made 3 of these a few years ago...
You are going to find it difficult to get the PINK/orange Perspex these days...
It is NOT the one from EMA...

I've got more photos of two originals on my other computer.

All the best.

Andy H.

Hi Andy,
that would be incredibly kind of you. Im afraid the coloured perspex from the 70 - 80's is always a problem but i'll figure something out.

Actually, NOT a problem!!

Even though Perspex discontinued it from their range some time ago, proper fluorescent pink "edge glow" acrylic sheeting IS still available - not solid or frosted pink.

There's a seller on eBay called "thewholesaleposco2009" that sell it in 3mm and 5mm thicknesses and a few different sheet sizes - a link to their eBay shop is here. I've got some from them and it's very good!

So, all you people out there with Liberator teleport bracelets, it's time to say "goodbye" to your "lava orange" buttons and replace them with the proper pink 'uns!!!

I guess i'll have to compomise and take the hit that its not exactly the same colour. As i tend to make these things for my own enjoyment and collection i can live with it. Any others i sell are to finance my collection and always make it clear if some factors are not as the original.

I wonder if the Movellan weapon was designed by Martin Bower who made the original Liberator guns ? I can see some design similarities.

No,
These guns were designed by Peter Logan, the storys Visual Effects Designer.
I've got his original design drawing somewhere, I'll post when I can...
Interestingly on the drawing it says to make the vains out of flourescent yellow/green Perspex (similar to the stuff on the B7 Fed helmets).

And Martin did not make or design the Liberator guns...

I'd agree that the two guns are quite similar in many ways and im tempted to make one in the green acrylic just to see what it will look like (and have some knocking around). A thousand thanks to all of those who have forwarded information i guess the old adege works "if you dont ask you dont get"

Hi Andy,

Following on from my rather short message above, the guns you made were using old stock? They're really nice!

Are the metal belt clips something commercially available, or just shaped and bent aluminium?

Like TFU, I'd also be interested to know the diameter of the EMA tube ... I might give it a go one day ... !!

Hi guys,

Yes I used old 1970's 3mm stock Perspex.
The EMA tubing is VT-450 (114mm, 4 1/2 inch OD).
The belt clip is just a strip of 1mm alli bent.

I've got a band saw so it wasn't too difficult to cut all the slots in the vains, what was a pain though was all those rings !!!

Always been a favourite design of mine.

I like a functional hand gun that is 'alien' in design, I also like the Liberator handgun for the same reason.

I would love to see that design drawing.

Did the finished article deviate much from the original design?

Cheers,

Andy

Having spoken to Andy H about the Movellan Guns he mentioned that one of them was also used in Blake's 7.

Clearly shown here from the season four episode Stardrive.

A welding type tool that Tarrant and Avon are using to patch repair the Scorpio's recently holed hull.
