Tonight I fitted the other end panel. This will have the speaker, PMR radio and any other bits I decide to add later.

I have developed a vague long term plan to fit a Raspberry Pi and use something like Jasper to make him respond to voice commands as a bit of a novelty piece. Right now though I don't want to get distracted so I'll just leave space for the Pi on the panel.

I've been a bit quiet as I've been busy but I've done a few more bits to my ORAC. They key now actually works and I've made some of the 'Tariel cells' light up.

Next task is to make him speak. We already use PMR radios in games so the obvious thing is to use that. I had thought about just throwing one in the box but it's ugly and I want it to go on/off with the key etc.

So I've stripped down a cheap PMR I had, wiring in connections to the buttons so I can prod them with the Arduino that's driving everything else. This means I can turn it on at startup, choose a channel, set the volume and so on.

Ideally I'd love a PMR module with proper I2C interface or similar and while they exist they're an OEM minimum order 1000 kind of item designed for professional manufacture, not bodgy hobbyists.

We did the LARP I built ORAC for this weekend, here's a group shot of the players. I think everybody had a good time and ORAC went down well. I'm the guy in red trousers with the demolition timers. Which are something I made up quickly from some suitable looking kitchen timers, closed cell foam, black and white gaffa.

Now what should I build for game 2?

This was just the players, we had crew too who played various roles, one of which was Servalan.

We'd like to do another game next year so ORAC should get another outing.

Dan! Well, maybe you might want to build an 'improved version', hey? If you did that, why, that old one would just be cluttering up the place....
