Ouch! This build is getting more and more expensive. SRN1's usually don't come in under 30 each!

Just had another good look at the pics and I think that the ladder we thought was from EMA is actually the ladder from Airfix/Dapol Water Tower?

Well, it could be worse - 8-foot Star Destroyer, anyone?

Thanks again HH!

Default RPF 8 foot SD

I've been following that thread as well, absolutely amazing.

In that case you can provide us with a list of kits he's used!!

What he's done is incredible, but I don't think I'll give it a go, it must have cost an absolute fortune in kits - it makes spending 30 for a small piece of plastic from a vintage hovercraft kit look almost sane by comparison!!

I made a boo-boo guys. The browning machine gun 'IS' from the Airfix 1/24th Mustang and not either the Hurricane or Spitfire.
Sorry about that.

As for the 8ft SD, you can bet that is expensive (3000 of kits -retail- by my reckoning). I'm currently building a large Star Wars ship myself 60 kits plus and counting!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Dammit!! I knew getting involved in this dastardly plan would be my undoing!...

Oh, and yes, that's the SR-N1 bit

No; Rebel Medical Frigate. But based on the original Joe Johnston colour sketch.
But back to the thread, studioscale scratch building is always expensive, even building a relatively simple model ends up costing more than expected.

This model must be heading over the 150 mark already?

I'd guess so, but luckily most of the kits required should contain plenty of other useful bits ... and you can never have enough bits!!

There's still a couple of parts to be identified on the top surface at the rear. there's also a couple of details on the underside ...

It's a pity that we haven't got a better shot. Maybe a conning tower from a sub holding that Airfix stand? Might be Tamiya military bits around there.

Cracking on with mine, putting a few kit parts on. Not quite an extact fit for the R2 leg and Lee/Grant parts as i was just eyeballing it when i made that blanking plate and ribbed plasticard section, with no kit parts at that time for size reference.
But figure they're close enough:

The trouble i have right now is that my other kit parts can't go on till the bigger pieces are in place to give them a position to judge them by.
Biggest culprit, and the stumbling block i have right now is this:

Anyone know what we're looking at? Looks to me like some sort of wheel arch affair with parts laid up and over the arch itself.
Thoughts?

Like you, looking at it I thought it could be the wheel arches of some sort of small lorry kit or perhaps a military vehicle, but if you look at the "front" of the part, the "mudguards" are just one complete half cylinder, which seems a bit odd. If you were to turn the part the other way up it could be a "holder" for something cylindrical - a missile/bomb/depth-charge, perhaps?

Maybe this piece is half of whatever-it-is, and two of these enclose something cylindrical?

It reminds me of the Limber for the Airfix 25 Pounder

Ooh, it's very close, but the kit parts look different. I don't know a lot about military models like this - was there something similar (perhaps by another maker) about at the time?

Its infuriating - its ringing bells but i'm just not making the connection. Ex, think you're right in that the basis could be some sort of clamp or somesuch for a missle or fuel tank or something.
And then it looks like there's a 1/35th footplate or 1/72 bit of armour nearest the camera and on the angle. Then some sort of 1/72nd axle on the top.
