Default YEAR 2 - just started watching

so far I've seen 'Catacombs of the moon', 'Journey to where' and 'Bringers of wonder'

oh dear - even as a kid year 2 seemed a bit cheesy at times but now I'm finding them almost unwatchable, especially after looking at year 1 intensivley for the last few weeks

I'm sure its well trodden ground but off the top of my head here are some immediately obvious problems:

1 - it looks cheap, right from the start too - even the opening credits look a bit underdone

2 - tony anholt: a nice chap but just about competent actor for 3rd (?) lead - they should have let Nick Tate fill that role

3 - forced humour - say no more

4 - nonsensical plotting ie 'catacombs' - what on earth is that all about..?
(and yes year 1 could be quite 'freeform' but I can't remember anything as daft as this..?)

5 - annoying incidental music ie kung-fu disco

6 - Maya turns into a Kendo-dude and can actually do Kendo never having studied it..? dumb dumb dumb (although it did look good and there was a decent quip)

maybe I just picked some duff eps to start with..? BOW isn't as bad as the others but still quite silly - I'm not surprised this was shoved straight onto saturday mornings.

IMO the best unintentional funnies are from, 'Space Warp' and 'The Rules of Luton'. For a completely idiotic plot do check out 'New Adam, New Eve'. And for some mind blowing dialogue check out 'The Immunity Syndrome' where Koenig interacts with the 'Alien', cunningly disguised as a spot light. Certainly cheers me up when my model making is going wrong!

I'm re-watching S1 after a couple of years, so I'm right behind you, mate. Sort of dreading series 2 really, but I enjoy cheesy sci fi as much as the next person! I just watch S2 for the model effects!

yeh LastBattlestar - when year 1 is good its very very good, there are some great episodes and for me some moments that are as good as anything ever done

it was way ahead of its time and I can really see the influence on the remake of BSG

when you compare the concise and powerful storytelling of 'Testament of Arkadia' to 'Catacombs' its painful...

If they had to do such radical changes(and since they did due to Sylvia's departure and Fred's arrival...if you want to know everything that happened during the run of the series, then read the new book by CalgaryAlphan ETF member Robert E. Wood 'Destination:Moonbase Alpha'), then I absolutely agree that Nick Tate's Alan Carter should have been moved up to 3rd lead in Season 2.

Sure, go ahead and dump on season 2. Just remember, there are plenty here who enjoy it. All I have to say is watch your back all you season 1 snobs!!

...though I do agree with your Nick Tate assesment. Seems he and Tony are tripping over themselves.

The funky "chase" music is also bad.

I like to pretend "Series 2" was just a bad dream and never really happened - I'd seriously like to torch the original negatives, collect all related merchandise and videos and make a big bonfire! - Oh and hypnotize the whole world, to make everybody forget

What season 2? Huh? SPACE:1999 only ran 24 episodes one season....right only one. We need a Jedi Knight to make you forget.

watched 'Seance Spectre' last night - I get it now, the episodes were all obviously improvised live!

nothing else could explain the rather extraordinary lack of anything intelligible going on - could it???!!!!

Shhhhhhhhhhhh, don't tell anyone, but I actually like both Space:1999 season 1 and season 2. I am serious, even though season 2 suffered from Fred replacing Sylvia's creative input.

You can't be too hard on series 2 you know! There were some good shows in there like,Journey To Where?,Seance Spectre and Bringers of Wonder of course. I used to record the episodes soundtracks off TV back in the seventies(only taped a few series one shows and they were pretty poor reproductions and had to ditch them I'm afraid) I used to listen to these on a regular basis as a teenager and with VHS I went on to record the episodes from series one religiously with series two being dropped half way through the run(and taking three years or more) As much as I prefer series one( I know we all do) I'll always have a place for series two( and whoever said the bin, please leave this forum immediately)

Hmmmm, of course we wouldn't be so hard on season two if season one hadn't been made! Hang on-that doesn't make sense!! Anyway, I'm with you Jonnybear, I don't know why, but I've a soft spot for Series 2-dunno, it must be nostalgia. But I agree, I struggle watchin it-sort of a guilty pleasure-well the model sequences anyway
